Callahan vs. Callaway vs. McCall

This is for Callie's full name. I'm not a fan of Calliope or Calla - they clash with the middle and last names.

The Top Baby Name is...

Callahan

63%

Callaway

McCall

These are not girl names! They're 100% masculine.

Calanthe/a
Calista
Calina
Calandra
Calypso

I don't want to use just Callie -- it's too nickname-y for my liking. These are the only options that I'm considering for a full name.

Or just name her Callie. It can be a stand alone name.

I've ruled out every full name that ends with A because they clash with the middle and last names. I do not want Callie as a standalone name - it's too nickname-y for my liking.

These names are unfortunate for a girl. Poor child.

These posts are ridiculous. Why aren't girls worthy of receiving feminine names? Answer: they totally deserve them.

OP, I strongly encourage you to reconsider your stance. Do it for your little girl.

Calanthe and Calypso are feminine Cal- names that do not end in A.

Calline? I can't vote for any of the names posted.

I cant vote

I am only considering McCall, Callaway and Callahan as full names for Callie. I really don't want -- or need -- new name suggestions.
posted by OP :: 1 year ago | report
Maybe you should name her something else.
posted by Mikayla :: 1 year ago | report
OP, you're gonna have a hard time getting votes with the options you've listed. As Mikayla suggested, why not consider another name?
posted by NameHog :: 1 year ago | report
I don't want to use another name. I'm inclined to name a girl Callie, but I'd rather not use it as a standalone name or any other variations starting with 'Cal'. These three options are the ones I favor the most, especially with the middle name and last name. Since this site isn't much help at all when it comes to voting, I'm going to post to Facebook or somewhere else instead. Thanks anyway.

The way people are falling for this lol

Someone posted these exact names for a girl in one of my Facebook groups. Oh, I pity this new generation.

Don't make assumptions about those who comment on this board. It's anonymous so you know don't know jack.

It's not a coincidence that someone posted these exact names for a girl on Facebook within the same day/night, and then this poll pops up. This is the same person.

I agree with Namehog.

Calista?

I sure hope this post was/is fake.

The Facebook group is called Name Haven. There is a poll with the same names for Callie.

McCall is absolutely terrible for a baby.

Why use a boy name?! Callie is perfectly fine for a girl.
posted by Guest :: 1 year ago | report
Someone polls McCall every other week. it's the same people that knows they'd get a lot of flack for the "boyish" names on girls. Hell, someone just tried to poll JOEL for a girl. Wouldn't put it past some of these people

It's perfectly legal in the US for parents to give their daughters names that are commonly considered boys' names. This practice is not uncommon. I've seen worse names for girls. I don't like this trend either but to each their own.

^To your point, yes, it's perfectly legal; however, just because you can doesn't necessarily mean you should.

I think a slice of these BNOG polls are probably fake but some have got to be real. After all, many people who frequent this board have met children (+ adults) with such names.

Expressing skepticism about the authenticity of every poll with a BNOG (Boy Names on Girls) theme is unnecessary, especially when there are individuals who appreciate this naming style. It's common for people to hastily dismiss a poll as inauthentic simply because the names aren't to their liking or don't align with their preferences. If parents are fond of a particular naming style and are committed to it, their choice is unlikely to be swayed.

I'd like to add that many girls have names traditionally given to boys, and they lead successful lives. In real life, I have met girls with boys names like August and Palmer and both are flourishing.

^I have no idea if the above comment was directed at me, but, I can assure you, I expressed zero skepticism when it came to this poll. None. Read through the entire thread if you please.

You called BNOG a "theme" and I'd agree with you completely! I myself am not looking to sway anyone in one direction or another … I'm simply expressing my opinion. After all, that's the purpose of this board.

And guess what? I myself have a unisex name (!!!) so no one fits neatly inside a square box. Kindly leave your assumptions at the door. Please and thank you.
