Annette vs. Opinions

I want to call my daughter Annette, but I fear that it could be problematic. Why do I feel this way? Well, there is a potential nickname of Annie. Chances are, my daughter will have red hair, so she could be made fun of with "Orphan Annie". I don't generally care much for the nickname Annie, but if she wishes, I will call her that. What do you think about this?

If you don't care for the potential nns that can potentially come along with a particular name, I'd personally select another name. Fwiw, I really like Annette + think it's a great choice.

Its a good name, get ahead of it by calling her nettie netta or nets for short

I like Annette, and I find most people turn to Anna before Annie as a nickname. Also, kids her age will likely not really identify with Annie the musical, as it's quite outdated even amongst the kids nowadays already.

I agree if you like Annette to use it. Most people will fall in & call her Nette or Netty.

I wouldn't worry about it. I've been close friends with an Annette for years and no one has every called her Annie.

I've known only one Annette and she went by her full name. I do think Annie is a potential nickname so I guess it depends how much you can tolerate it if it ends up getting used. If you dislike Annie make sure you speak up right away each and every time someone calls her that. This will hopefully prevent her from being called that until she's old enough to voice her own opinion.

I wouldn't worry about it. I think you're overthinking this a bit. Annette is a beautiful name, and if you love it, you should use it. Almost every name has some type of teasing potential.

I think it kind of depends on your daughters personality and who calls her that by then most kids might not even know what Annie is

I think you're overthinking it. I have never known an Annette who has gone by Annie. And even if that happens, it's not a given. Annette is really underused and it's time for it to make a comeback. Go for it.
