All these names are fine. I prefer Charlie as a nn for a boy but I'm not opposed to it being used a nn for a girl. I personally would only use Giovanni if Italian.

Brian gmv. I prefer Jonathan to John. I dislike Charles (and Charlie). I like Gavin as well.
