Gemma is actually quite popular as well. I actually know more Gemmas under the age of five than Ellas.

I know tons of Ella's but only one Gemma (kindergarten aged) and one Wren (high school aged).

Stella and Calla are similar to Ella. My favorite would be Aubriella but maybe that's too long for you.

I love the name Theodore but I would still use it despite it being a popular name. If you like Ella best, use it.

I'm inclined to say that Ella is less popular now than 5-15 years ago. I'd need to check the data to be sure though. For under 10, I know only 1 Ella, but a bunch of Ellie's and Emma's and Emily's.
