If you really want to use Walter for honor/family reasons, maybe go with Stephen Walter?

Makes me think of "Wal Wal" as a nn - which isn't great. I do know a family Harnisch who always name the oldest son with a fn starting with Har- (e.g., Harrison Harnisch). Not my cup of tea but they own it.

I've never been a fan of rhymey, matchy, or alliterative first and last names. HOWEVER, off the top of my head I know a Sienna McKenna, Walter Westfall, and a Beau Bastic, and they seem fine with those names haha. I also don't think it matters thaaaat much, since 97% of the time people would be just saying his first name––Walter, Wally, Walt. My married last name combined with my first name is pretty heavy on the Rs, but it's not like people refer to me by both names often.
