Alix vs. For a boy?
I love the way Alix looks and sounds, I love how vintage and European and royal it sounds, but it seems that this name is too feminine. The famous people with it have been women (like Alix of Hesse, for one) and my friends and family tell me it sounds like a girl's name. Will it work for a boy? I can use it as a middle name if it won't work as a first one, but even as a middle name is it too feminine? If not, could you please suggest some alternatives in a similar style I might like? Thank you for your help, thank you.

Because Alix is basically derived from Alice, I find it to be quite feminine. But that's not to say "don't use it". If you like it, go for it!
Other "A" names you might like:
- Arden
- Ariel/Ari
- Alaric
- Ansel
- Alastair
- Ambrose

No to Alix on a boy. Like Namehog I can't unknown that it's a variant of Alix. Plus as a history buff those female Alixes (sp?) come to mind.
What about Felix, Ivar, Alec, Rex, Niall, Keir, Alexei, Einar ("EYE-nur"), Rupert, Arlo, Miles, Otto, Piers / Pearse, Asa, Tighe, Rafe, or Hugh / Hugo? Good luck! :0)

I don't understand why this would sound too feminine? It's basically pronounced like Alex, right? Which is typically a boy's name. I feel like the average person would just assume it's a spelling variant of Alex.

^ It's not that the name sounds feminine, rather, it's the history of the name. Sure, the average person probably wouldn't know the difference but we're here to help with what we know.
I believe Alix is pronounced "ah-LEEKS".
Alix or Alex ate great names for boys.

I'd spell it Alex though, if you're open to doing that.
