Kateryn vs. Use it vs. Don't use it

My husband and I are welcoming a baby girl in November! We wanted to name her after his mom Katherine, but neither of us like that name or the nicknames for it. We came across Kateryn (cat-ah-wren) on. baby name website. We both really like it, but we're worried it might be a little too weird. What's your opinion? Thank you!

I'd use it. I don't think it's too weird. I even pronounced it right at first glance, which may be a sign that other people will too.

To me, it sounds like I'm saying Catherine with a foreign accent so I looked it up and it's apparently Latvian? If you love it, use it but I voted "don't use it".

I'm not a fan of Kathryn. You and your daughter would constantly have to deal with pronunciation and spelling issues. You can always use it as a middle name.

How about another form of Katherine? Like Katrin, Katya, Katerina, Catriona.

There are many forms of the name Katherine. Look up the "family tree" for Katherine on behindthename.com. If you can't find one you like, then just use Katherine as the middle name and use something else you love for the first name.

I don't see how naming her Katrin is any different than naming her Kateryn. I think it's a beautiful name. If you like it use it. But make sure you can picture an adult with that name.
