Christian nn Ian? vs. yes vs. no
Please Please Please help us with this one! One of my favorite names is Ian, but my husband’s favorite name is Christian. Is Ian a nickname for Christian? If it is, that would solve a lot of our problems!!! My husband’s name is Chris (short for Christopher, not Christian), so we wouldn’t call the baby Chris as to avoid confusion. Do you think that Ian is a stretch for a nickname for Christian? I know Ian is a real name - but does it look like we’re trying to hard to use it as nickname? Do I sound completely crazy?!! Please give me you opinions on this - Thanks so much!

Yes! Go for it! They’re both great names, so it’s cool that they work together that way! You and your husband will both be happy! Good luck!

I think Liam is a stretch for William, but people do it all this time...wouldn’t this be the same?

I think it works just fine! It’s no more of a stretch than the nn Bobby for Robert or Billy for William! I like Ian as a nn for Christian!

Well, if you don’t think it’s a stretch, why did you ask? Because it’s a stretch, and you know it. But do whatever you want. It’s your kid.

I agree with poster 3. I think Liam is a stretch for William, and Eli is a stretch for Elliot. So, IMO Ian is a stretch for Christian. If you really like it, though, go for it!

I agree with pp, Ian Christian would be really nice. Or you could use Ian now and save Christian for if you have a second son. Just a thought!
