William, Esther vs. Alternatives
Husband likes William or Esther; I would like anything not within the realm of the top 1,000. Or even 5,000! Any ideas for compromise suggestions?

The SSA (US) only keeps track of the top 1,000 "most popular" names so I don't think anyone can help you outside of that realm unless you're a researcher interested in naming trends. Some names that are currently "out" of the Top 1,000 include:
- Geneva
- Cecily
- Constance
- Cordelia
- Dorothea
- Justine
- Philomena
- Rosalind
- Rosemarie
- Viola
- Casimir
- Bernard
- Clement
- Jerome
- Edmund
- Valentine
- Wallace
- Carlisle
- Anton

So a classic/older name that's outside the top 1000? Using the US SSA rankings, these names weren't in the top 1000 in 2023.

Other ideas:
You could use the names he likes as a middle name.
You could come up with a wacky/unique nickname for a classic name he chooses.
You could look for a name he likes in another language, perhaps. People have different opinions about that. But instead of William, would he be open to Willem or Wilhelm or even another English variant like Willis? Behindthename.com is a good source that will show you the "family tree" of each name so you can see related names for both genders.
Good luck!

Esther is pretty. Eden is a nice suggestion. Wilma is freaking hideous.

So you want retirement home names? Esther actually does fit right in with that so don't be triggered ^. You like old lady names you like em, embrace it.
