Personally, I think Mimi is a little too cutesy for a first name. It also limits her options when she grows up. Giving her a full name would be my preference. Full names include Michelle/Micaela, , Mary/Marie/Maria. Miriam, Mariah, Mira/Mirabel, Milena, Naomi, Amelia, Mimosavand Emilia/Emily.

I'm a grandmother and Mimi is also widely known as Grandma. I have three friends who are called Mimi by there grandchildren. It's a sweet name, I don't know if I would use it because of that.

Mimi itself does NOT mean grandmother. It's just a common used nickname for grandmother. But the name itself doesn't mean grandma..

I don't think I'd use Mimi as anything other than a nn. It doesn't feel substantial enough (to me).
