Paisley vs. Yes can use vs. No better not use
needing opinions on name paisley for a girl. it is a surname in my scottish family but many have said it is now lost its origins and is associated with the trendy trashy american crowd. i got told of a friends student 'paisleigh'. is this really an issue or can i use it without people assuming my character? interested to know your thoughts.

I'm an American and I get that exact vibe off this name lol. All the -leigh and -lee/-ley variant names are very popular with… your description of people. Take that information as you will. Is it fair? Probably not. But names have always been stereotyped all throughout history. It unfortunately has had its affect on this name too, at least for me.

I did like Paisley when it was just a name popular in Northwestern circles (I went to school in Montana where it has actually consistently ranked top ten for a good amount of years) but it did hit the South and they decided to get pretty creative with the name. For what it's worth, I think using the traditional spelling Paisley will not raise the same eyebrows that Paislee or Paisleigh does. Or if it still bothers you, what about Priscilla or Persephone? Or another similar Scottish surname like Primrose, Presley, or Pirie, that hasn't been appropriated in the same way? (Yet!)

I personally wouldn't use it as I associate it with the ghastly pattern.

People are trashy not names. Names like Hayley, Kylie and Adley aren't trashy. I wouldn't worry about it

I don't care for this word for a human name. However, since it's a family surname, you can always use in the middle spot.
Seems trendy and perhaps therefore more likely for a Paisley to have young parents. I don't think of any particular name as "trashy." That's just my perception though. I've only ever heard of one Paisley, my neighbor's granddaughter whom I haven't met.
Personally, surnames and word names really aren't my style. But you are welcome to use Paisley as a first name or middle name for your child without appearing "trashy."
