If you're honoring Ashleigh, then use Ashleigh. Otherwise it sends the message, "We wanted to honor you but didn't like your name enough to use it."

Maybe you could use the first part instead of the second...
Ashtrid could conquer the concept well.
I think Elleigh is fine as an honor name to Ashleigh. I think the Leigh part will always catch criticism. You'd have to throw ideals out and just go for it if that's what you want to use. But for less criticism the ash part would be better recived.

If you want to honor Ashleigh (but not use Ashley), I'd choose a different name. Something like Kayleigh I've seen before, but Elleigh makes me puzzled when I first glance at it. Perhaps you'd like Ashlynn or Ashton? I think you could even do Leighton with a nickname of Ellie. But Elleigh really isn't worth the headache.

If you're using Elleigh as an honor name I automatically think of it as honoring an Eleanor. WDYT of Ashlynn, Ashtyn/Ashton, or just Ash? There are also a lot of different ways to spell Ashley that are Ashley or Ashleigh.
