Americus (Yea!) vs. Americus (No way!) vs. Please read!
So I named our girls, Stella, Grace, and Kira with agreement but no real strong feelings on their names from DH. Now, he really wants to name our son, Americus. This would be his official name but he will go by Merrick. I like Merrick but, Americus? Should I just give it the okay or is it really terrible?! I've tried to "sell" him on other names, but he truly likes this one! Please vote to convince me or him!

Americus seems a bit much. If you're looking at calling him Merrick anyway, maybe just go with that?

I prefer Amerigo as I think it's a bit more understated.

The only time I've ever heard this name is in the book "Where the Heart Is". The protagonist births a child in Walmart and names her Americus. It sounds like a cartoon character to me. Really like Merrick on its own!
