Evan as a vs. nickname for Evangeline
Could Evan work as a nickname for Evangeline? I thought I was having a boy, and I had planned on naming him Evan/Evander. I still love Evan, and I would hate to give up my last chance to use it.

I don't see why you couldn't use the nickname
Evan for your daughter. She has Evangeline to fall back on if she doesn't like Evan.

HARD PASS. I totally disagree with the concept. If you want to use a nn, Eva, Evie, Gen, and Lina/Lena are lovely options. I'd feel regret not using one of them tbh.

Why when Eva is right there, no need to add deliberate gender clouding, she isn't a boy after all.

I'm with the second and third posters—definitely yes. Personally, I think Evan works perfectly as a nickname. Nicknames don't need to follow any specific rules or be tied to gender. That's just how I see it. You're free to take our input or go with what feels right to you. This is YOUR child, and you get to decide what what her name/nickname will be. What does your gut say?

Everyone knows it's ^ her child. Why do people say that? The poster is asking for opinions and people are responding.
Anyway, I think Evan is ridiculous. Girls have enough obstacles ahead of them in life to overcome. Don't add to it.

Evan can be used for a nickname for Evangeline but it certainly wouldn't be my personal preference.

It is in the name, so it "could" work, but I don't think it should. I'm not trying to be rude. It's just that it seems like such a shame to name your daughter a gorgeous name like Evangeline (which I love by the way) only to nickname her Evan, a very masculine name. Just my thoughts.

I think it totally works!! It's not the most intuitive so it may take some legwork, but I think Evan is sweet (and also love the long Evangeline to back it up)

Thanks again for all the feedback! I've decided to go with Evan as a nickname for Evangeline. Since she'll be my only child, I think I'd regret not using the name in some form.

Not that I am suggesting using Evan as the actual first name but some people use just Evan for their daughters even if it's masculine so you could too if it's that important to you. It's just a name. People overreact about things like this. Yes, it trends to make life more complicated to have an ambiguous name, but it's not that big of a deal.
