^ I agree with FredaCat. There is a double standard at play for this "boy names for girls" trend. The opposite ("girl names for boys") rarely occurs. Why is it cool to name a girl James but not a boy Meredith, Beverly, Evelyn or Aubrey? All four of these names were once male names but parents rarely choose them anymore because they're now considered girl names.

Harlan is 100% boy. That Guest upstairs ^ spelling it "Harlyn" for a girl is an imbecile. The letter "y" doesn't feminize a name. It's a fallacy. Forgive me for my candor but it's true.

^ Someone apparently doesn't know the difference between candor and rudeness. Calling a poster an imbecile is rude.

^ That's your opinion and quite frankly I don't care.

Harlan is a male name.
Harleen is female. It's actually the full name of the character Harley Quinn.

Harlan is a very country-ish boy name to me!! Super handsome. For a girl, maybe you'd like:

If names went in both directions I wouldn't mind so much. But once a traditional male name like Harlan becomes popular for girls it doesn't go back (ex: Avery, Harper, Kendall, etc.) That's not to say that one family using Harlan on a girl is going to change anything. It's just a trend I see generally and leads me to vote "boy only" here. Good luck! :0)
