thoughts vs. on name

What do you think of the name Berenike? It is the original Greek form of Berenice/Bernice, it means "bearer of victory" and it was used in ancient Egypt's Ptolemaic dynasty. We know it is an uncommon name, but we love its meaning, its historical depth, the nickname possibilities that it offers (Niki/Nika, Beri, etc.) and the fact that it is part of both our heritage. But even though we like it, we are also considering that due to how uncommon it is, it might not receive very "complimentary" comments. Thus, we would absolutely love to get some outside opinions and hear what you think? Thank you!

I'm not a fan. The ike part sounds manly to me.

I do like Bernice but Berenike has never been on my radar.

If you live in an English speaking country, Berenike may be misspelled and most probably would be mispronounced. Pronunciations are numerous depending on country/culture. I've heard "be-ruh-NEE-kay", "behr-eh-NEES", "behr-eh-NIGH-see", "behr-uh-nee-see" and others. How are you pronouncing the name?

I actually really like the sound of it, however, I'm not sure that she wouldn't have issues with the spelling. I think many people would think it's the same as Bernice and that you were just trying to be cr8ive. Just something to consider.

I understand where you're coming from, but that name is going to be difficult to wear. Bernice would be better for a first name. But you could certainly use Berenike as a middle name.

Berenice. Or, better yet, Veronica.
