Emika Imae (I-may) vs. Emika Kaiyo vs. Emika Mai

Hello everyone. This is my third poll in last month. On the first poll, no one liked the name Emika saying it sounded strange. On the second poll I made sure to include that I am Japanese-American and the first generation to be born in America. I am married to a white, American man. My mother and father moved to this country as adults and are very tradional in their customs. I would like to give my children Japanese names to keep honor with my family, but I want Japanese names that are more modern and will make my children comfortable around other American children. "Imae" means present generation, "Kaiyo" means forgiveness, and "Mai" means elegance. We also like Kei, Seiko, Setsu, Thank you, Chen

Sorry, I kinda feel insulted that you wish to fully honor Japan and not America at all.
You live in America and married an American, your child will be born in America, so why the full Japanese name? Why not at least one of each? I’m sorry but to me it doesn’t seem fair to your husband or the child, especially since an American name would be easier for the child.
I’m sorry if this offends, but this is my opinion.

Ugh. The third poster is really mean. I love your idea of Emika Mai and the childs last name will be american. As long as its cool with you and your hubby you should be fine.

Emika is pronouced Uh-me-cuh). My husband and I don’t think it sounds too Japanese. We think it sounds much normal than many names African-Americans use, such as Shaniqua, Tamika, and names like that. -Chen

I think it sounds very pretty, and actually quite similar to lots of names that are popular now.

Maybe it’s where you live, but no one around here would bat an eye at it.

I think a lot of posters to this site are sort of sheltered in their world view, so maybe that’s the problem.

At any rate, I think it sounds very sweet with Mai, and I like the meaning.

I used to know an Emiko who went by Emi, and she was awesome.
