Cadence (English) vs. Cadencia (Spanish) vs. Cadenza (Italian)

Hey, all! Several years ago, I fell in love with the idea of using the word Cadence as a name... I loved the sound, that it’s aesthetically pleasing, that it was rare... but especially the meaning... rhythm. I liked the idea of encouraging my daughter to walk to the beat of her own drummer, so to speak... Well, now Cadence has become so popular for girls, and Caden for boys, that it’s lost a bit of shine for me, so to speak. Especially because, for many people, they no longer think "rhythm," but instead they think "trendy." I looked up "cadence" in other languages, and I like out that Cadencia is the Spanish word for cadence, and Cadenza is the Italian word for cadence... and a musical term. What do you think of each? Thanks!

I really love Cadence but yeah it is becoming a trend...I personally would go with Cadencia because it’s not something I hear often and is very feminine. I think the z in Cadenza is sort of rough for a little girl.

You must NOT use "Cadencia" in Spanish, because "Decadencia" means deterioration or decline. And in spanish, every time you say something belongs to someone, you would say "De Cadencia", Eg. "This book belongs to Cadencia", would be "Este libro es de Cadencia", so in spanish many times you place "de" before the name, making it "Decadence". Dont do that to your kid.

I like Cadence the best, simple and beautiful. I don’t think it’s too popular, I know Caden and Cayden are, but I don’t think Cadence is as popular at least where I live. The SSA.gov has Cadence as #212 which isn’t too high, probably won’t change to much in the next year or so. GL

I love Cadence. It’s still not super popular. I’ve never thought of it as being too trendy. Cadenza and Cadencia are too out there for me. GL!

Well, I personally find it Uber trendy. Three years ago, a coworker told me her new grandbaby was named Cadence because her parents (shudder), "Really like the movie American Pie."

If you love it, though, by all means use it.

I would just suggest this....in the military a cadence is a march. Cadence, or a beat, suggests to me by definition a very strict, regimented sound.

If you really want a musical term that suggests whimsy or the willingness to go ones on way, I think Cadence is pretty well the opposite.

I love love love love the name Cadence! It’s so beautiful the popularity of it doesn’t even matter! Although, I don’t know anyone named Cadence personally.
