There is one alternate spelling that’s a legitimate spelling of Mary:
Mhairi (a Celtic form)

Mari, Welsh and Breton for Mary, unhappily co-incides with the French word for "husband."

I think Mary is just a classic name that shouldn’t be changed in spelling.
