I would have pronounced it "Mah-el". If you like the name maybe go with a spelling like Mayelle which is a little harder to mess up but still keeps the sound of the name you like.

I would have pronounced it MAY-elle just off the bat, but I can see how it may be confusing for people when they first see the name spelled. If you love it, go for it! People get used to stranger spellings than that all the time, and it’s a gorgeous name!

You could also consider hyphenating the name: Mae-Elle. That would have absolutely no confusion in pronunciation at all!

I would pronounce it May-Elle.

On a personal note, my name is spelled Rachelle and pronounced Rachel. People constantly mispronounce my name as Rah-Shell, and I have to correct them. That having been said, I really like my name. I like the fact that it is a little different and that it separates me from the crowd. Even though people mispronounce Rachelle, I wouldn’t change it for one second. You love Maelle and I have no doubt your daughter will love it, too, so a little correction every now and again is nothing. =)

My daughter Maelle is named after a friend from Belgium. It is pronounced MAH-el but after having said it a billion times in the past 9mos I can tell you it ends up sounding like MY-el. You probably noticed that Maelle Ricker (the Canadian gold medal winner in the Olympics) is also pronounced this way. People have a hard time with the spelling but everyone loves the name. Good luck in choosing your names!

My husband and I decided on the beautiful name of Maelle for our own daughter over 18 years ago...It is pronounced "Mah-elle" and it means "princess" in old Celtic...It is much more common here in France..Insist on the original pronunciation and spelling...it is so much prettier...People DO become accustomed to using/saying it correctly..(Think "Noel" in terms of two syllable pronunciation)..and don’t forget the "two dot" accent over the "e" in Maelle...it separates the two vowels making two distinct syllables...(My computer does not have the accent key)..Lovely name!

I love what I\’ve learned here about the name\’s original meaning and pronunciation. But I love it pronounced \"mile\" (like Maelle Ricker) and plan to pronounce it that way if our baby is a girl!

It is my daughter’s name. I dont understand why Noelle is easy for people to pronounce but Maelle is difficult... It is pronounced my-Elle with emphasis on the second syllable ... Not pronounced mail, Maya or maylie as often mispronounces. I think we will call her a nickname like Mel or Ellie

It is my sisters name and it is so pretty. (I got Johanna. Nice, but not as good as Maelle!) People mispronounce is sometimes, but they get it pretty quickly. Comparing it to Noelle is a good guideline. It isn\’t May-elle or Mile. It is My-elle.

As a French speaker I would expect the"L"’s to be silent and the name to be pronounced like a drawn out "My", especially if it has two dots above the E. But I’m not sure how they say it in France.

We named our now 6 year old daughter Maielle, pronounced my-ELLE. (We opted for this spelling instead of using the two dots with the e since we are in the states.) It is mispronounced occasionally but less than we expected. We think it is a beautiful name to say and hear.

My name is Maelle and I am in my 20’s. Growing up I have had people call me so many different ways. However, my mother and gran. have always called me "MY-EllE" (my girl).... and I must say I love it .. being called May-elle doesn’t suit me, it doesn’t sound right (it kind of feels dull.. and un- unique)... Through out the years I’ve come to figure the correct annunciations...

1- english- My-Elle
2- french- ma- ëlle/ Mah-Elle
3- spanish- miel

My second daughter’s name is Maelle (USA). We pronounce it my-ELL. I always say, "Like the first 2 syllables of my elephant," and no one forgets again. We started pronouncing it mah-ELL as it would be pronounced in France, but the mah- followed by -elle turns into mah-YELL or my-ELL really quickly. I love the name, though my daughter is the only Maelle she knows and is sad about that (she is 6). You can watch her get born on YouTube if you search Maelle homebirth.

My daughter’s name is Maelle and I absolutely love the name. We pronounce it "May-elle" since it seems to suit her better. Some people have trouble with it but once corrected a few times there is no problem.

My little sisters name is Maelle and we pronounce it as "My-el". We got the idea for this name while watching Maelle Ricker during the Winter Olympics. I think it is a beautiful and unique name!

Hey Guys my Name is Maelle and it is pronounced MY-ELLE or in french MA-ELLE

My daughter’s name is Maëlle; named after Canadian gold medalist, Maëlle Ricker. Her name is pronounced MY-Elle, as denoted by the accent above the ’E’.... as others have stated, the accent indicates the separation of the two syllables, as in Noël. If you are planning on using the accent, then MY-Elle is the proper pronunciation. If you want it to sound like MAY-Elle, then I would suggest leaving the accent off, or using a different spelling altogether. My daughter is 3 and we still have family members that call her May-Elle. We’ve even had nurses in the pediatrician’s office call her May-Lee and/or My-Lee.

My daughter is named Maielle, inspired by our Canadian snowboarding champion. It was during the 2008 World Snowboarding Championships, before she had anything published on the internet, so I couldn’t find her name to know how to spell it properly. I did my best :) We pronounce it MY-ell. And it never fails to take my breath away with how beautiful it is. :)

To those who are spelling the name Mayelle I'm 90% sure your most likely North American (or English only speaking ) .. the name in it's self is derived from the French. With that being said I think we should all say the name in it's corrected French form which is Ma-Elle or in English My-Elle ... the reason to my statement is : I was born in the carribean moved to Canada when I was young and the only people who seem to pronounce it "differently " is the English only speaking people (may-elle) because that is how ae=(ay) in English is pronounced, HOWEVER because it is a French name let's not take away from it .. lol ...
