Can Ellie stand alone? vs. Or is it just a nickname?

My husband and I both LOVE the name Ellie. He thinks it works by itself, but I kind of feel like it should be short for something. What do you think? Also, suggestions would be great for what it could be short for... besides Eleanor and Ella. Thanks!

I DEFINATELY think Ellie can stand alone. My step-daughter’s name is Ella but she always goes by Ellie, and I know her Dad wishes he’d just called her Ellie. My friend’s daughter is called Ellie-May, so it can work as a nickname, as a double name or as a name by itself.

I like it, but I prefer the spelling Elle. (but it IS your baby, not mine, ha)

I actually think Elizabeth is the perfect name to short to Ellie, but unfortunately my husband has a "less than popular" cousin named Elizabeth, so the name is already taken.

I think Ellie will be fine by itself.

If I chose a longer name for it it would be Ellison with nn Ellie. GL!
