Joachim vs. Joaquin
We are set on this name, but need advice with regards to the spelling. Which should we go with? I realise Joaquin is the more recognisable spelling these days, but Joachim is the original spelling and (in my faith’s tradition) the name of the Holy Virgin’s father. Middle name will be David (after my father). Thanks for your vote!

i always thought that Joachim (hwa-keem) was the Hebrew version and Joaquin (hwa-keen) was the Spanish version, with different pronunciations. i think if Joachim reflects your heritage then that’s the one you should go with.

I forgot to say that the pronunciation of both spellings is exactly the same. The ’m’ at the end of Joachim tends to throw people off, but both are pronounced Wa-Keen.
Thanks!

I think Joachim just looks made-up or very asian or something...I’d stick with Joaquin but that’s just me plus the M at the end only adds to this names’ difficulty in pronouciation

Joachim is in the scriptures. Tradition is good--it links children to their ancestors, instead of pop culture. Congratulations, Molly and Joe.

Joachim doesn´t look Asian at all!!! I like it better than the other spelling. By the way, it´s a common spelling in Germany.

Guys it's HWA-KEEN not WA-KEEN, trust me, it's my name.
Example:
It isn't WO-SE or WU-AN it's HWU-AN And HOW-SE

"Joachim" is a German name, pronounced (yo ah' kim).
(I have a German friend with this name.)
"Joaquin" is the Spanish form of this name, pronounced
(hWah keen'). ( - example is actor Joaquin Phoenix)
They are both forms of the Biblical name "Jehoiakim", and I've no idea how to pronounce this one!
