Dislike! It’s a childish, ugly name. Besides, Bonnie & Kane sounds too close to Bonnie & Clyde.

People would refer to them as Kane and Bonnie instead of Bonnie and Kane probably, since Kane would be older, so I wouldn’t worry about the Bonnie an Clyde remark if I were you.

Please keep your comments positive and helpful.
Even if you don’t like the names. Thanks!

If you don’t like the name, you don’t have to call it ugly!

I don’t love it and I definately don’t hate it. I’ve seen much worse names on here. If you love it, go for it! There is nothing wrong with Bonnie.

I think it is pretty. I like it much better than a lot of the trendy type names.

Very cute, and will age well. Very refreshing from all the boy names on girls!

We have the name Jesse picked out for another boy, but we aren’t set on a girl name, we never even had one picked out when I was pregnant with Kane! What other girl names sound good with Kane if you don’t prefer Bonnie? I also like Shelby and Bethany, but Bonnie is an old family name. What do you all think?
posted by deanna :: 14 years ago | report
Bonnie is an old family name for us, too. I love it, and I also love Bethany. Bonnie reminds me of Gone With the Wind- that is the name of Scarlett’s daughter.

If it’s a family name, I think it’d make a great middle name! I just think it’s too cutesy for a first name. Great on a little girl, but there’s not a fuller-name version or anything that she’d be able to use for things such as her resume, degree, etc. So I’d go with something more flexible for the first name, and use Bonnie in the middle.

Also, I LOVE Jesse! I think that name is so handsome and underused.

We only want to use names that have special meaning to us. Kane was named after William Kane Hughley, my husbands best friend who was killed in a car accident, and Kim Patrick Miller, my daddy. If we have another boy, his name will be Jesse Glenn, after Jesse Jerome Alexander, my grandfather, and Kerry Glenn Young, my father in law. These are some girl names that are special to us: Bethany, Bonnie, Leigh, Shelby, Avery, Fayth, and Dawn.

I would not use Bonnie as a first name for sure. I instantly thought Bonnie & Clyde, Bon Bons, and Blue Bell Bonnie for some reason. To me, it is a very old lady name, I don’t think its nice on a little girl, young adult, or even a middle aged adult. And Kane is such a cute name. I think people would be like "Awww Kane and....Bonnie?"

Leigh and Avery are sooooooo cute as little girl names. I like Leighton, also. Fayth could be the middle name, or Dawn. Way cuter than Bonnie. It’s actually my least favorite out of your picks.

Use Bonnie since it has such a special meaning to you! Its a nice name, and not tryndeigh and boyish. I agree with the other poster who said it was refreshing.

I don’t think kids of your childrens generation will know who Bonnie and Clyde are.

I think Avery Bonnie sounds good! I wouldn’t use it as a first name. And I would never use Fayth. If you’re not going to spell it right, don’t use it. You can honor someone without spelling things wrong.

Umm , PP, that might be the way that person spelled Fayth, and it will indeed honor them.....
Bonnie Leigh
Bethany Leigh

I think Bonnie and Kane are 2 completely different styles. If you like Bonnie, I would use it as a mn. Kane is very modern name especially with the K spelling. Something like Kaydence Bonnie or Keira Bonnie would go better imo.

I repeat: You can honor someone without spelling things wrong.

I think there are other names besides Bonnie that are refreshing. Even out of your names. I have a Grandma Bonnie....I actually really dislike the woman. But, nonetheless, it’s the name. Lonnie, Tawny, Shawnee, I don’t like anything with this sound.
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
I read your post, but my point is, what if that is indeed the correct spelling? What if the person they are honoring spelled it that way? That would be terribly insulting to insinuate it is a bad spelling if that is indeed the way that special person spelled it!

Fayth or Faythe seems more of a name than Faith to me anyways.. Faith, Joy, Hope, Precious, Love, these aren’t names. I like Fayth. It’s not like she’s spelling it Faeith or something obnoxious.
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
Could you use Bonnie as a middle name?
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
Fayth IS obnoxious. And you don’t have to be completely literal when honoring someone.
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
You don’t have to be completely literal, but if it is a special spelling, than they can if they want to. Heck, even if they just prefer that spelling. But if it were a very special person to them, I think that some of the above marks could be very insulting.

Alright well let’s all jump off Fayth? --- This lady still doesn’t have very many helpful suggestions.

---- Are you set on Bonnie?
Do you have a middle name?

I don’t like it. I don’t think it will age well.

I found this post very interesting, I have a daughter called Bonnie. When she was born the overwhelming response of people that loved the name far outweighed those that didn’t comment. She is my gorgeous little girl and couldn’t imagine calling her anything else. Personally I think there are alot of "modern" names that aren’t very appealing and are down right trashie. Everyone has there own style that they like. Some more classical, traditional, nature based etc stick with the style you like and you’ll be happy.

Bonnie is a great name!

Love the name. Way better than some of the names currently being used that reflect a more \\\’aren\\\’t I hip\\\’ society. Has substance which some of the ones currently in top ten totally lack.
posted by guest :: 12 years ago | report
Absolutely love the name! It does suit all ages and is refreshing and different yet at the same time a classic. Adorable, love it.

This is a super old poll, but I can't help but comment. We are probably going to use the name Bonnie so I've been looking up other's opinions. I find it extremely ironic that the most common "disklike" responses are
1. It's too cutesy - won't age well
2. It's an old fashioned old lady name. Those two comments are totally opposite from each other. What I take from this is that it is an adorable name for a little girl and it is a name that has been around for generations and worked for women as they aged it's a perfect and will work on a little girl and continue to work as she ages. If you like it you like it and if you don't you don't. Can't please everyone. We aren't asking for other's opinions and will announce the name of our baby girl when she is born. I know this post was started 8 years ago, but right now the most popular names are either trendy, made up or cutesy - or on the flip side of that a lot of the old fashioned classic names are coming back. In a classroom full of Evelyn, Charlotte, Hazel, Neveah, Paisley and Hadleighs - Bonnie will be just fine.

My name is Bonnie (middle name Meredith). I didn't love my name as a kid, wanted to be a Jennifer or Michelle like everyone else, but I don't mind it now. I do love that it's uncommon, I never had a duplicate name in any class, much less any employer. I'm 39, so nowhere near old lady status! Yes, people reference Bonnie and Clyde all the time, but there are worse things when it comes to names.

I am Bonnie Gail and I have had this name for 67 years. I love my name...it is different than others and I never had a girl with the same name in any school I attended. Bonnie means beautiful. I don't understand the hateful comments saying the name is ugly?? Wow.or wouldn't look good on resumes etc ..I know this is a very old post but I read all the comments. I hope the person had a girl and named her Bonnie. It will look fantastic on her College degrees!
