Ricky vs. Full Name vs. Nickname

I love the name Ricky for my son. But I hate Richard which is typically the full name for Ricky. I think Richard sounds like a snooty, stuck-up old mans name. Anyways, do you think Ricky can stand on its own? Or does it need a full name? Middle names suggestions would be wonderful. No particular style. Just whatever you think would sound good. I went to school with a Richard I am 19 years old he is too. He playes baseball and is a fun loving goofy kid. I know we all have our opinions on names but I think Richard is just fine.

I think that Ricky needs a full name. What about using Eric or Derick with Ricky as the nn.

I agree not a fan of Richard but also can’t see a 50 year old named Ricky. What about just Rick as a first name nn Ricky or Eric nn Ricky.

I’ve known a couple guys who had the first name of Rick, instead of Richard. Maybe just name him Rick, and you could call him Ricky?

I agree with pp’s about Patrick or Derek with the nn Ricky.

My first boyfriends name was Ricky but that was 25 years ago so not such a cool name anymore imo.

My fellow is called Ricky (full name) nn Rick or Rickster at work by some collegues. Ok he is 25 but is in a professional job and has never had any problems with his name. His uncle has the same name nn Big Rick! The name suits both if them and I would recommend using the name on it’s own, I think as your child gets older drop the y off so it’s Rick/ Rik and you have a more grown up name. Best of luck.
