Saoirse vs. Socra vs. Aoife
My husband is of Irish decent (I’m a quarter Irish) so we really wish our baby girl to have an Irish name. Saoirse pronounced like "sear-sha".....Socra pronounced "SOR-a".....Aoife pronounced "ee-fa". These are not made-up names, they are all genuine. But our daughter will be raised an American - are these names too difficult or strange sounding?
The Top Baby Name is...
Saoirse
Socra
Aoife

They are beautiful Irish names, but I fear that no one would ever be able to spell or pronounce them. However, I like all of those names over the tired, over used Kaitlyn, Jaylees and Baileys - yawn. Ireland is a beautiful name for a girl or Erin!

They are pretty, but I don’t think in America it would work very well. I know a little girl named Ireland Amelia. I think that is a very pretty name.

Aoife is gorgeous and I knew how to pronounce that one without looking at your notes!! I’d use that one=) The others are nice too, but some people will have a little more trouble with them. Also, Siobhan is one that many people know how to pronounce. Good luck.

I would use an Irish-American name and use your Irish name as a mn.

I love Saoirse and Socra, but I think that they would be a little difficult as a first name in America. I like Kay’s suggestion though. Here are some irish names that are easily pronounced in America.
Alannah
Aislinn
Cara
Catriona
Cassidy
Ciara
Claire
Colleen
Fiona
Iona
Kaitlin
Kerry
Kyna
Meara
Neila
Nora
Noreen
Ryanne
Shauna
Teagan
I think that Alannah Saoirse, Kaitlin Saoirse, Kerry Saoirse and Nora Saoirse would be pretty. Good luck!

Ireland or Delaney ....... I agree that the other names would always be misspelled and/or mispronounced.
