Leighton ... vs. boy name vs. or girl name

I’ve come to love the name Leighton for a boy, but I’ve been researching it and found out it is being used a lot on girls. What do you think, better as a boys name or a girls name and do you like the name or no? Thanks for your help!

How do you pronounce it? I’ve seen/heard it pronounced Leeton and Layton. Both sound masculine to me, but would spell it Layton for a boy.

It’s an old school southern boys name just recently it became popular on girls due to Leighton Meester. I do however love the name for either gender--but prefer Lleyton on a boy.(same pronounciation)

Both, its unisex! You asked if it worked better for a boy or girl, I say boy. Congrats and GL!

So-so on a boy.

Hideous on a girl.

If it would bother you to have your son’s name on a girl, then avoid it.
If you wouldn’t care, then use it.

I don’t think it’s super popular for either gender, but there are tons of "n," ending names-one of the swim clases at the pool today was Kellen, Jordan, Logan, and Colton (see how they all run together after a while....?)

I have a friend who named her son Lleyton, which has the same pronunciation that you are saying but it looks very masculine.

I’d say that Leighton is more of a girl name, but it’s mostly unisex . . .

Just gave birth to a beautiful son, we named him Leighton Alexander. Love it for boy or girl.
I did look into it and have seen its older name in the south and popular in early years.
