Emerson vs. Madison vs. Addison
I’ve seen a lot of negative commentary on Emerson as a girl’s name because it contains the word "son." To those people, do you also consider Madison and Addison boy’s names? And if not, why is Emerson different?
The Top Baby Name is...
Emerson
Madison
Addison

I just think Emerson sounds like a boy name. I really like the other two. Do you not like them?

I think the ’son’ in the end is just a crappy excuse. I like Madison, Allison and names like that.
I dont like Emerson for girl just for the fact that I hate the name. To me it sounds a bit masculine, harsh and just.. bad.

the son doesnt bother me, I just know very masculine hockey players with the name Emerson so it reminds me way too much of a boy.

They are unisex, some people just prefer them on one gender more than the other. Emerson just sounds very masculine, rough and harsh.

Personally I don’t like any of them. They’re all unisex, but I think Emerson is the most masculine.

I dislike all of them. I actually dislike Addison more, as Addisons is also a disease, and means Adam’s son.
I dislike Madison not only because of the son ending, but also because it is tremendously overused, esp. the nn Maddie.
I associate Emerson very strongly with the philosopher and writer, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and so when I meet girls with the name I usually think her parents must not have gone very far in school.
If you want an Em name, do Emmeline!

Of the three, Addison is my favorite, but I would only call her Addy/Addie.
I don’t like MAdison because I wouldn’t want my daughters name to have "mad" in it, and it reminds me of medicine.
Emerson just doesn’t sound very...attractive, for a girl.

for me, a lot depends on spelling, but do what you want!
Addison v. Addisyn
Madison v. Madisyn/Maddisen
Emersonv. Emersyn
Addison v. Addisyn
Madison v. Madisyn/Maddisen
Emersonv. Emersyn
I could never ever picture any of those names on a boy! They all sound very feminine to me. Seriously. I LOVE Emerson/Emersyn/Emersin! And if you love it, I say go for it! Really it won’t matter if it’s a "boy’s name" or a "girl’s name" (as long as you don’t cut her hair short and dress her in boy clothes) She’ll be darling and people will know that she’s a girl. Go for it!

Another reason people might feel Madison is more acceptable as a girl’s name than some of the other son names is that it is a popular place name.I feel like it falls into the category with Cheyenne,Savannah,Sydney etc. more than it does the unisex names.
