Vell-a or Vee-la?

Vell-a= Vella
Vela=Vee-la

I feel like there’s a difference in pronunciation with these spellings. It depends on how you want it said. Vella rhymes with Bella, a definite short e vowel sound, and Vela (assumes a Spanish pronunciation) rhymes with Selah, more of a long a vowel sound. Is that too technical?? Haha.
