Jean (As a MN) vs. Okay . . . vs. NOT okay . . .

Jean is the middle name of my grandmother and my favorite aunt, both of whom I’m very close to. I’d kind of like to honor them by using Jean as my daughter’s middle name, but I can’t decide how I feel about it. I don’t know if it’s coming back around and will sound cool or if it’s just an unattractive name. Can you guys give me some advice?

I love it. Is it as "interesting" right now as Grace, Daisy, or Noelle? No, but it’s honoring two people you really love! And it goes great with pretty much anything. I say for it. What are your first name options? Or would you like some to go with Jean?

As a girl’s name Jean is not in the top 1000 baby names currently in the US (and has not been for at least 10 years....maybe even longer). So, no, it is not coming into vogue anytime soon. At least that would make your girl unique! However, I would like it better as a middle name.

Another option is a hyphenated first name (if that fits your style).

Lily-Jean
Rosa-Jean
etc.

I’d be up for suggestions for names that go with Jean, if anyone has some. We haven’t decided on a first name yet, either.

Thanks for your opinions. We just don’t want to give her a name that will seem old or ugly to her friends (or to her).

So, any suggestions for first names?

Thank you, I like Ruby Jean. More suggestions would be amazing :)

I’ve also thought of using a name that incorporates Jean, like Jeanelle or something. Does anybody have any suggestions or opinions about that?

Oh, from the second list I like Charlotte Jean and Norah Jean. There are a lot more names I like in that list, but I’m really still iffy about the Jean part, so those are the only two I like with Jean.

Thanks for those :) - poster

Honestly, I like Jean better, because that’s the relatives’ actual name, right? If their names were Jeanelle, I would like that. Of course there’s nothing wrong with using a variant, I would just prefer to use their actual name so the connection is clear to them when you tell them you named your baby after them. :)

Ivy Jean
Hazel Jean
Rosie Jean
Tierra Jean
Verity Jean
Willow Jean
Zinnia Jean
Addie Jean

names come into vogue about every 100 yrs. so I would choose hoping it will be popular at some point. choose names you love.

if you want to honor Jean, choose a J name you love as a middle and tell them it is to honor them. They will love it just as much. Eg, I chose Justice because I wanted a J name that reminds me of you (your character). I chose Jasmine because I wanted a J name that reminds me of you (your beauty).
