Elowen vs. Elowyn

I’m torn on which spelling to use. Her nn would be Winnie/Wynnie or Wyn so would Elowyn be the better spelling, or does the ’Y’ make it look trendy? Thanks for the input.

Not trendy, feminine.

I like both, with a slight preference for Elowen (the common Welsh spelling, I believe).

Honestly, I like both. Pretty name. I like the Y, and I usually don’t like Y’s substituting for other vowels. I don’t think it looks trendy in this case.

I’ve never seen it spelled Elowyn, and yes, it does look trendy (and to the 2nd poster, yes it is the common Welsh and also the common Cornish spelling) Elowen is beautiful without variation. Please don’t change it!

We named our daughter Elowyn, after my wife had a dream about the name the night before she was born in 2003. The name is very original and I doubt that two Elowyns would ever meet by chance. I have no idea where the name comes from but do agree it sounds Welsh.
In practice, people naturally nickname Elowyn as "Elle" never "Wynnie". We find Elowyn is a beautiful and unique name that always seems to positively catch people’s attention and our Elowyn loves her name.

Elowyn is my 7 year old daughter’s name; we wouldn’t dream of shortening such a beautiful name to Winnie or Wyn.

My name is Elowyn. It isn’t trendy or Welsh. My nickname was winnie when I was younger, but I have a lot of nicknames. My sister goes by the name Elle so I couldn\’t take that from her. Spell it with a Y. It looks nice either way

Elowen is Cornish, not Welsh, and is the correct spelling. Elowyn is kre8yve and doesn’t make any sense, especially with pronunciation. You can’t exchange an e for a y! If you’re saying it properly, there shouldn’t be a ’win’ sound at the end.

Elowen is Cornish, it means ’elm tree’.
