Chloe vs. Chloë vs. Khloe

Hi, Alexis here. So four weeks till my due date, and we finally decided on Chloe Noelle. My husband says that the umlaut makes the spelling and pronunciation more correct, but I really don’t see the difference between Khloe, Chloe, and Chloë, even though he’s been quite adamant about it. We’re kind of having a hard time picking which one. Any suggestion to this?

Definitely not with the umlaut. People will leave that off any way. Also, most people wouldn’t know how to pronounce a word with an umlaut anyway. There are tons of names in the English language that are pronounced with different accents and umlauts, etc, but it looks tacky to spell it that way. Chloe looks best. Simple and classic. GL!

I like it with and without the umlaut. I just don’t care for the spelling with a "k". If you use the umlaut, expect people to leave it off often.. but personally I like it slightly better with the umlaut.

I’d leave off the umlaut. It will be a problem for her her entire life.

If you use the umlaut, people will leave it off and it would be much easier spelt without it. For instance( as a teacher this is relevant for me) when your daughter will take standardized tests once she is school age, there is no umlaut bubble for her to fill inwhen she has to write her name.

It would be much simpler for her to have her name spelled just simply Chloe. I also strongly dislike the K spelling- it just looks bad.

I would just spell it Chloe. My name is Chloë (spelled this way) and people almost always leave the umlaut off. Also, with the umlaut, it actually causes people to say it differently and incorrectly because they get thrown off by the umlaut. I usually don’t even write my name with it.

I actually like Khloe with a "K," (there are only a few "C" names that can pull off a "K," and Chloe is one of them). I agree that Chloe is best spelled as is, and people will not have trouble pronouncing it. (:

My daughter is Chloe with the umlaut and she loves that it makes her name special I would def recommend the umlaut.

My child is named Chloe. No umlaut. Don’t want to confuse her when she starts writing it, plus it takes away the classic beauty of the name.

My name is Chloë and I definitely would not spell it without the umlaut.

My niece is called Chloë. Technically it’s the correct way to spell it to achieve the sound you’re after. She has never struggled to spell her name - and I guess if you think about it, it’s less confusing later on as it’s otherwise breaking a loose spelling convention of adding an ’e’ to create the open sound. Chloe should be correctly pronounced to rhyme with ’Slow’.

I like both the spelling with and without, but prefer the ë as it seems gently unique/special over what seems to be the convention. Don’t mind the Khloë either - looks very Germanic with the umlauts.

It’s actually not an umlaut it’s a diaeresis. It shows you pronounce the two vowels separately like in naïve. My name is spelled like this and I prefer it.

Green Apples is right.

It's an umlaut not an diaeresis......diaeresis tells you to pronounce the SAME letters thst are by eachother diffrently ....Ex; Coöperate

I absolutely love it spelled with a K and also with the umlaut! It makes it diffrent and unique from the other boring chloe spelled names .....so i think Khloë is beautiful! She will not strugle spelling it growing up, two dots over her last letter is not that hard to learn! I do not think people are going to mis pronounce it, they clearly can see it's Khloe/Chloe/Khloë and will not even try to prounce the obvious name any other way! If in school she has to leave it off because a test do not have that option than heck with it, leave it off that day....not hard... Im spelling my daughter's name Khloë like no other Khloë :)

@Shae take a minute and reflect that @Green Apples and @Üna Pübe are correct. All you want is the glottal stop between the o and the e. Es don't even get Umlauts.

More to the point, as a husband myself, I have to tell you we're not interested in the outcome of internet polls.
