The only one I would give my daughter is Finley but I really despise it, it’s just the only one that is girly enough for me, Channing is an awesome boy name though

The only issue with this is that these are boy’s names, no matter what middle name you put with them. She will mainly go by her first name, so the middle name is basically irrelevant. You could name her Angus Grace. it’s still a boy’s name and is cruel to do to a child. Would you want to go through life with a boy’s name? It may seem cute to you right now but it is a trend that is indicative of this time period and that name will be pretty silly when she is in her 20’s.

Channing is the only one I would give to a girl.
I like the nn Chan (pronounced a little bit like Chantelle’s Chan...)

If you have to go with one of these, I like Berkley best, though I agree with the above posters.

I think all the names are cute. I know you didn’t want to hear any comments about them being boys names, but I think Channing is mainly a boys name. However, I do think Finley and Berkley would be way too cute on a girl. I would go with Finley!

My name is Jordan, and I am just fine with that. When my parents named me that it was not a trend. We live in the country and these are very popular girls names, 2 of them being in the top 50 for girls in our state.

Names like Jordan and Taylor are unisex names. However, the posted names are not unisex. They are just boy’s names being used on a girl. Berkley is the most feminine of these even though it reminds me of Barkley the dog on Sesame Street.

Your comments are not helpful, nor positive. I’m not sure why you are so against unisex names. These are all listed unisex in EVERY name source I have ever used. I think all three names are great GO FOR IT!

In the US as a whole, for name popularity in 2009, Channing and Berkley wer not ranked in the top 1000 for girls or boys. For boys, Finley was ranked 722 and 526 for girls, so even though Finley seems masculine to many of us, me included, somewhere in the U.S. there are people name their daughters this.

I am in love with the names Finley and Channing! I voted for Channing, though. I have never actually heard of anyone named Berkley, but the name’s growing on me!

I agree about -ly making a name girlier. I can’t think of a true boy’s name with that ending but there are several girl names ending in -ly.

Are we allowed to say they’re dopey names?
Berkley is a city, best known for ultra liberal politics and the University. A place I like but an odd choice for most families, I’d imagine.
Unless you’re very young hippies.
Channing brings to mind the white haired actress Carol Channing, though I know there is a Hollywood actor by the name.
I do agree it seems feminine, and since I can’t stand it, it gets my vote as girly sounding and a name I don’t really care if anyone uses anyway.
Finn has been an Irish/Celtic boys’ name for hundreds, maybe thousands, of years.
Finley seems like an invention.
I guess if you want to use that one I don’t care either.
Are you planning on calling her Fin? Not super pretty.
I will say I don’t get the girly middle name thing.
If you want to give her a boyish name, just do it.
Children are almost never called by their mns.
When I see polls that mention that I think it’s a mom who wants to be clever but knows in her heart it’s not a good idea.

Berkley sounds prettiest. Also, it’s not as popular as the others. it’s much more refreshing sounding.

I would go with Berkley (but may I suggest Berkeley like the college then she can say she was named after the college instead of a boy.) Just a thought. I don’t like Finley since the nn for Finley is usually Finn (all boy) and Channing is okay but I don’t really care for it on either sex. GL

I really doubt most people will think of these references. However, my one concern about Channing is that there is an actor named Channing Tatum who has gotten pretty popular.

I love Finley for a little girl. Channing seems boyish to me. And I’m leaning towards Berkley as a boys name as well. But I couls aslo see Berkley on a girl.

We are also considering the name Berkley/Berklea for our daughter...love it for the old English meaning of a meadow where birch trees grow.

All of these names are nice. I’m in love with unisex names. And just as irrelevant as the middle name may be so will be the origin of the name as well. When was the last time someone asked you were your name was derived from...honestly who cares. If you live in the US, we are not used to hearing names such as Fin as a boys name so again it doesn’t matter. And like someone else mentioned anything ending in LY sounds feminine. My niece is Finley...so cute! And I’m naming my baby girl Bailey. Berkley was on the list!!!

Our baby girl (12/28/12) is named Berkley Ryan. Her daddy came up with it, and I think it\’s adorable on her. She can be a little tom boy! :) I love Finley too, but I went to school with a girl named Channing who was an awful person so I can\’t handle that name. ;)

We have a Berkley that is adorable, loves pink, 100% girl. It definitely works for her:-). We have only come across one other Berkley who was a decade older than ours. Her brothers name is Croix. He is all boy and his name works for him...except the teachers and old people that want to call him Troy.

For what it’s worth, my name filtered down from my great-grandfather and was supposedly the surname of the doctor that birthed him. My grandfather was Denver Berkley, my father is John Berkley, and I’m Berkley James. Born in the mid-70s, I never met anyone with my name until about 2000...a young boy in a chance encounter. In about 2005, a former coworker told me her granddaughter would share my name, so it likely has become slightly more common as a female name in the last 10 years or so, as these thing go with unisex naming...
Also, as a last name, there is the actress Elizabeth Berkley of the same spelling. My middle and last names are much more common and could go either way as first or last names, so it is often assumed that Berkley is my surname...just something to consider depending on your family name.

We named our daughter Berkley Jane. It’s a beautiful, unique name that isn’t too "out there." We call her Berk for short. We opted to keep the spelling simple for her sake. Finley and Channing are also sweet baby girl names!

I came across this site by accident because I was looking up the name, Berkeley, for a girl. I am going to name my daughter Berkeley Aspen if it's a girl. But, much to my surprise and delight I saw the comments about the name, Channing. That is my daughter's name and she is 14. It's Channing Leigh- Anne. I have gotten nothing but beautiful compliments on her name over the years. She got her name from her dad, my ex husband. His name is Channing James and we decided to name our baby Channing whether boy or girl. It fits her perfectly and she is 100% girly girl.
