Other names to vs. honor Bertha?
We want to honor my grandmother who passed away, but her name was Bertha... We think Elizabeth could be a possibility, but we’re looking for other options. We also can’t use Beth or Bethany. Thanks!!

I had the same problem, my grandmothers name is Bertha Myrtle. We named our daughter Elizabeth Myra.

Thanks 1st poster! I really like Beatrice but, as it is my grandmother’s sister’s name, we’d be honoring the wrong person. ;) I also like Bella and I’m writing it down as one of our possible options.
2nd Poster: Some names are just not meant to come back right now, huh? As much as I loved my grandmother, I still don’t want to give my daughter a name she may be embarrassed of... Elizabeth may indeed be our best option (love your daughter’s name, by the way!).

I have to say, that as sweet as it is, i don’t get honoring people with a variant of their name. If its not Bertha, its not your grandmas name, and therefore you are cornering yourself into a name that you might otherwise not have chosen, that really doesn’t honor anyone anyway!
I hope that doesn’t sound to offensive. Maybe you could use your grandma’s middle name, as your daughters middle name. ?

She went by Betty, so Elizabeth is not that much of a stretch. Thank you for your input, 5th poster.

I agree with the last poster. If your daughters middle name was your grandmas middle name it would open options for you as a first name, and whether you like the mn or not, its just a mn, and its a true honoring of your grandma.

this is to the poster who said it wasn’t honoring the grandmother to have a vairent I’m going to name my daughter Dorothea for my grandma Dorothy so in your opionion does that mean I’m not honoring her. Also Belle or Elizabeth are great names.

Oh, sorry, I forgot to say: we already have a first name picked up so right now we’re looking for a middle name.

8th poster: I think Dorothea is great! :) And I think in the end it’s what we know in our heart that matters. So what if we change a name - we know the special meaning of that name. :)

I think in your case, there is no other name like Dorothy. So Dorothea is super close. If this poster was considering Berthel or something, it might be different. I just feel like Elizabeth and Bella are totally different names, just similar consonats. Sorry, I didn’t mean to anger anyone, just offering my opinion and alternative suggestions!

First name will be Amelia. Second middle name will be Renée. Last name is short and starts with a B.
