Peyton boy vs. Payton girl

Let me start by saying I’m not usually a fan of unisex names. We really like the name Peyton/Payton but can’t figure out if we like it for a boy or girl. When you hear the name, do you think boy or girl? How many of each do you know? How would you spell it? Thanks for all your help!

I always hear Payton (girl), because I have an aunt named Payton and a sister named Payton.

I’ve known of 3 boys named Peyton and 1 girl. I wouldn’t know if it was a boy or girl, but I’d probably assume boy. It sounds more manly to me.

I think it is feminine sounding. Peyton Manning won’t be playing football forever. If you look at the stats there are many more females with the name!

Boys name all the way! Very manly and only know boys with that name feel bad for any girls who would be given a male name especially one like this that isn't feminine at all.

Anything that ends in "TON" is not feminine why would you do this to a girl? I know 5 boy Peytons and 1 girl and the girl always said she was thought to be a boy before they met her and was told she had a boys name. Wished her whole life she could have a girly name not a masculine one. Please don't do this to your daughters and give them a boy's name. It is not cute for a girl But love it for a boy! Very masculine

We are planning to name our son Peyton Thomas. Never would have even thought anyone would give it to a girl. Still keeping the name it is a boy's name.

Who would give this name to a girl? It is more masculine sounding than similar boys name (ie: Mason, Leighton/Leyton, Landon, Jayden, etc) have no idea why anyone would think Peyton sounds girly bc it definitely doesn't!!

My son is Peyton Jacob and they always call him "she" at his doctors office it drives me bonkers 😒
posted by Stef :: 6 years ago | report
That's strange about the 1st office calling him a she bc the only girl peyton I know says everyone she meets thinks she is a boy and is shocked when they see she is a girl. She is ready to change her name to something girly and not such a masculine name. Don't think the trend will stick definitely see the name going back to only boys named it

It will always be a boy's name to me. Much better suited for a boy can't really stand it on a girl sorry it's too boyish

Love the name Peyton on a BOY! Good gawd please only give this name to a son this name is just awful on a girl I can't imagine anyone thinking this is a good name for a girl

Stef, I go through the same thing at the doctors office, ugh! My son's name is Payton, I loved it for a boy. But in the last year I've met 2 little girls named Payton. Seems like the name trend is swinging toward the girls side, I really hate it. I'm having some regret but holding on to the hope that it will swing back after the trend fades. I mean, I don't mind it being unisex. I just don't want it going completely left like Shannon and Leslie. I do not want my son growing up with insecurities about his name 😒.

Okay first of all Peyton is a unisex name point blank period and all these negative comments I'm reading I'm honestly shocked but the only thing I can get from them are these are most likely parents of a son named Peyton and they are on defense because they can't stand the idea that their son may have a feminine name or have to share a name with a female. This post was posted in 2011 in which times were different back then however that was around the time the popular tv show called One Tree Hill was popular (I'm sure you've heard of it) if you haven't get Netflix....Anyway the main characters name was Peyton and she was a girl! This show came out about

My son is named Payton after my husband's grandfather named Payton Andrew. I was worried about the spelling too. My son is named Payton Nathaniel.

Lol at the people who say it is only a boys name. Way more girls are named Peyton.. like Ashley or Shannon they may have started out as boys name originally , but now have way more girls with the name.

Must depend on where you live Josh because I have mainly seen this name on boys. It seems better suited on a boy imo. Plus I would always immediately think of Peyton Manning or Peyton Meyer.

I guess it depends where you live. I have only seen on boys but as with almost any name now I would never be surprised to see any boy's name on a girl the way today is
