What’s in vs. a name?

Just out of curiosity, do you, your children or someone you know have a story, special meaning, or specific reason behind your/their name? I have one daughter at the moment (she’s due in March) and her name is going to be Abigail Rose becuase when I told my husband that I was pregnant, he was sooooo excited that he ran up and down the block shouting to the whole neighborhood he was going to be a daddy (it took us 6 years to get pregnant). When we found out that Abigail means "Father’s joy", it reminded me of his reaction and we fell in love with it. Rose is my middle name. So that is where our daughter’s name comes from. What about you all? Please share if you know a story behind a specific name. Thanks, Beth

Almost every girl in my family has the middle name Marie, so when I had my daughter it was not hard to find a middle name. Abigail Rose is a very pretty name!

That is a really nice story. One of my brothers was named Matthew because it means gift from God, and when my mother was pregnant for him, she was told that he probably would not survive due to a heart defect, so she thought that was a nice meaning because going through the experience really taught my family a lot. He actually did survive, so he really is a gift :)

My name is Lindsay Renee and my mothers name is Renee with the maiden name Lindsay. Not a touching story like others but I love my name because its my moms =)
My sons name is Gavin Neil, Neil is his dads middle name and deceased great grandfather who died saving someones life in a fire when my mother-in-law was just a baby. That name means a lot to our family.

My name is Kaylee Dale, and I was named after five people. Two aunt Karens with the middle name Lee/Lea, my aunt Kayla, my mom whose middle name is also Dale, and my uncle Dale. I have three kids of my own now, and one on the way. We have Payton Elizabeth(after my cousin Elizabeth), Branson James(after my great uncle james), and Ellisyn Grace(after my husband’s mother), and the new baby will be either Evan Matthew(after my dad Matthew) or Brittyn Myrtle(after my grandma). Abigail Rose is precious! GL!

I have an aunt who was pregnant and took the bus to the hospital because no one was around to drive her and she actually ended up having the baby on the bus. Thankfully, there was a woman on the bus who used to be a neonate nurse and she assisted with everything before paramedics arrived, but because of that, she named my cousin after the nurse and the first name is after the bus driver. Pretty funny story, especially because the first name has an ethnic feeling to it and my cousin is not ethnic.

We chose Joy Noelle for our daughter because she was born on Chrismas morning (our boys weren’t too thrilled with her timing though).

In my family, the girls are given a first name chosen by the parents, and the middle name is a family name of some kind. For example, my sister’s name is Katherine Kaylor (fn because my parents liked it, mn because it’s my grandma’s maiden name). My name was supposed to be Jennifer Montgomery, but my mom HATED it, so she insisted that they use the middle name Lynn instead (my dad and my grandfather’s names are both Linwood).

Family names is a big thing in both my family and my husbands. My husband and his brothers middle names are after their grandfathers, Robert and Joseph. My brothers middle name is after my Dad, Peter. And my sister and I our middle names are after our Mom. Her name is Erina but she goes by Erin. So my middle name is Erin and my sisters is Erina. Our daughter’s middle name is after my sister. If we have a son his will be after my husband but, unfortunately, if we have another girl we have no other family names that go with any of the girl names we like...

Not too long ago, I read on this site where there was a dad named Redford and they were going to name their son Rogan because it meant "Little red." I thought that was pretty neat.

I was named hope for many reasons. My mom had me when she was only 17, she was very depressed after my father said he couldn’t be a part of the family because of going to college and growing up. She was on the verge of giving up until she realized, if she gave up, she would be letting her self down and an innocent child

We didn’t expect our daughter to survive the pregnancy, but she did. There were a lot of complications during her labor, and she almost didn’t survive. She has some learning disabilities now, but she is HERE - and that is a miracle. So, we named her Grace Miracle and call her Gracie.

My name is Abigail for a similar reason - it means "source of joy" "Father’s joy" etc and my parents loved that. My middle name, Katherine, is a family name, and it means "pure". Abigail is a great name, I love the meaning behind it. :)

Our daughter was born on the first day of autumn, so we named her Autumn. We love it, and she loves being the only Autumn in her class.

My husband is a Chemist and wanted to give our son a name from one of the chemical elements. I said we could do it only if it had the option of a normal nickname. Erik chose Radon and I call our son Ray.

I named my child Daisy because my sister always said if a man gives you a daisy he loves you. My sister was always talking about theories and vibes. My first boyfriend gave me a daisy that he picked from the ground on the way to my house. My sister died from cancer about 10 years later. My boyfriend and I had split up 8 years before. About a month after her death he calls me and comforts me. We became friends again. Then we fell in love again, and we got married and I got pregnant. Not only did he give me daisy as in the flower, but he gave me Daisy, our daughter.

I met my husband because I had his 6-yr-old daughter as one of my First Grade students. His wife passed away, and Ashlyn and her dad (my husband) were both having a really hard time with it. I volunteered to babysit her over the summer, and it just went from there. The following summer, he asked me to marry him. When we got pregnant with our daughter, we decided on Summer because of the significance the season has had in our relationship.

I named my daughter after three books characters (yes I’m a little crazy!). Her name is Bella-Katherine and she is named after Isabella Marie Swan, Katniss Everdeen, and Catherine Earnshaw. Abigail is beautiful by the way, good luck!

My mom went into labor with me and was sitting at home waiting for things to pick up a little bit when she felt that something wasn’t right. She went to the hospital and my heart beat had dropped over 100 bpm and she was rushed into an emergency c-section. Because she was unconscious when I was born my older brothers (who were 13 and 9) at the time got to name me. And I’m so glad that they did because my mom wanted to name me Kathryn Louise (yuck! lol) and instead I got the name Tiffany Ann :)

My oldest sister’s name was Lynn Katherine. She dies shortly after birth. All the rest of the girls in the family have some part of her name: Kayla Lynn, Melinda Colleen, Katherine Eileen, and Lindsey Kaye.
