Madeleine vs. Evelyn

I really love the name Madeleine. It is my favourite name in the world. However, I don’t like the nickname Maddie or Maddy. My grandma was Lena and I have always wanted to honour her, and Madeleine has the "lene" in it. Could I call her Lena for short or is this too weird? I also like Evelyn nickname Evie but not as much as Madeleine. Also, can you please suggest middle names for Madeleine? My son is Benjamin Thomas and he is 4. Thanks! The Cheethams.

How about Elena? It is pronounced differently than Lena, but has the name in it. I think you Lena is a bit of a stretch as a nn for Madeleine. She will probably get the nn Maddie or Maddy at some point in her life.

I definitely think you can use Lena as a nickname for Madeleine. Yes, someone might try to call her Maddie, but if she already has a nickname, you or she will correct that person. It’s like my name, Elizabeth. I go by Beth. Yes, people have tried to call me Liz, I correct them, it’s not a big deal.

You can either nn her from her mn (Lena or Leena), but I think the nn Della is super adorable. If you nn her Della from the start no one will call her Maddy.

If you want the Madelyn pronounciation then I wouldnt spell it Madeleine. I have always heard that the ei (MadelEIne) is the spwlling for the Made-line pronouncation.

Madeleine=Made-line
Madeline= Madelyn or Made-line
Madelyn= Madelyn

my name is Madeleine and i have lost of nicknames, here is a few ok! Lena, Lily, Millie, Adele, Lyn, Maddi, Elena, Amelle, Mads, Mally, Mimi and Leinh ect. Taa!

Madeleine is sooooo a better name! it is really pretty and sophisticated.. it mea tall beautiful and elevated :)
