Nia vs. Neah vs. something else

We asked my 4 year old daughter what she wanted her baby sister to be named and she said nee-uh. The weird thing is, we actually like it! It isn’t completely decided yet but we would like spelling suggestions or ideas for other names if you don’t like this one. Thanks!

I would go with Neah, because Nia looks like ny-ah. But other than that I love the name Neah

Thanks, we hadn’t thought about it being confused with Nyah. Definetly Neah then.

Nia looks best. Neah just reminds me of Leah, which I like much better than Neah. Personally, I don’t love it. Not only that, but you may want to at least look at other names you may love instead of just letting your 4 year old name your daughter. She’s 4, it’s just a name she came up with, not a name she really loves for her baby sister.

I really doubt Nia would be confused with Nyah. I know a few women with the name Nia and I’ve never seen where people have mispronounced it. Nia looks classier.

Nia looks best, but I don’t care for the name. You may want to keep this as an option and come up with a few more names you really like. What’s your daughter’s name?

What’s your other daughter’s name? It would make it easier to make suggestions based on your naming style.

What about a full name with a nn Nia? Like Lavinia, Zinnia, or a hyphenated name, like Nia-Rose?

I know a Nia that’s short for Natalia.

Nia is an actual name. It is Welsh and it means bright. Good job, Big Sister!

My daughters name is Neah. I love it! It is a biblical name but then it is also a Nordic name. There is also a place in Washington named Neah bay. We pronounce it Nay-ah but others pronounce it nee-uh. We don’t mind either.

Go with your gut. My daughter was born in 2010. We named her Neah, with this spelling. The name is Welsh and means bright, and radiant. In Swahili the names pellet Nia means purposeful. My daughter is 6 now. We love the name. It cracks me up that people on here post not just their preference but their opinion on the name you chose for your child. Stick with the question people and show some tact with your responses. You may not have chosen the name for your child (free will), however it may resonate with someone else. Hold your judgements unless you want us to go criticizing your name or the names you chose for your children.
