Brielle Samara vs. Brielle Samara-Medehanit vs. Brielle Medehanit
My Husband and I have been in love with the name Brielle Samara forever. We are adopting our next daughter Brielle from Africa. Her birthmother died from Marlia if she would have had medicine she would have lived. So they named Brielle, Medehanit which means medicine. Will hearing Medehanit remind her of losing her birthmother? Should we give up on our Brielle Samara and keep her Africian name, Medehanit as the middle name? Or share the middle names? Or just keep Samara?( by the way means guarded by God.)
We are so confused! Thank you so much for all your help!!!

I wasn’t sure what to vote for. I think keeping her African name is important. I am not sure how old she is so I don’t know if it would bring back memories or not. If she is an infant, I don’t think it would matter as much as if she is older.

I say use the name you love. Brielle Samara is beautiful. Medehanit with the meaning medicine makes it kind of odd. Is she old enough to know her name?

If she is 2... I would keep her current name as a middle name, so that she has something familiar. Give her two middle names. A lot of people are doing it now...

Brielle Samara-Medehanit is fine if you are worried about it affecting her. It’s a little long, but it’s still pretty and it’s meaningful. I love Brielle and Samara...both are lovely. GL with your little girl.

I like Brielle Samara Medehanit just like this but without the hyphen. The hyphen is unnecessary. This name is the best of both worlds.

If she is less than one, I would change her name. Medehanit is wierd and it signifies why her mother died. You would be better off changing her name to her mother’s! You should go with Brielle Samara. Although, I think Samara is a little wierd.

If she is almost 2, I don’t think you should change her name. She will have so many changes, something familiar to her might be nice.
