My name is Emily and I often get called Emmy.

I think it works well as a name on it’s own but possibly doesn’t age very well.

I think that its a cute nn. But I would give her a name where she could choose to use it when she is older or go with something else. Personally, I like Emery nn Emmie. GL.

She MAY want a more grown up name in the future, so you could give her that option...

On the other hand, my parents were told that they should not name me "Sadie" because that is a nickname... here I am 28 years later and I love it!

Emmy Rossum’s proper first name is Emmanuelle. So I would go with something longer.

To me it is a nickname, especially when spelled that way. Emmy, although still technically a nickname, seems more finished. They are both traditionally the nicknames for Emma or Emily. Emmeline is nice though and Emilia.

Emmy Rossum’s real name is Emmanuelle. I think Emmie is a good nickname but I think she should have a more complete name for when she is older, and be called Emmie for short.

There is also Esme.

Of the three you are considering, I would go with Emmeline. Gorgeous name. Patrick and Emmeline go together well. I think she should have 2 middle names like her brother:

We probably won’t use Donna as a middle name as I have always hated my name (I was named after my granddad Donald) and I wouldn’t want that for my child!! And my middle name is Margaret which is just as bad! I am pretty sure my parents hated me!!

I really like a lot of the suggestions, looks like Emmeline is a winner. Emmeline Violet is so pretty and I quite like Emmeline Iris, too. Emmeline Clara is cute, and Emmeline Chloe! I am liking a lot of these. I think we might stick with the one middle name... wdyt? Donna x

Emmeline Violet is great. My daughter goes by a nickname and most people don’t even know what her full name is. If you call her Emmie it will stick and she can fall back on Emmeline when she’s older if she wants to.

I have a friend named Emmy and it is her full name. She has never had a problem. If you like it...just use it.

Since you love Emmy, then by all means use it. Don’t suffer through trying to come up with a longer name or more formal name. Emmy is a fine first name-no need to make it longer just for the sake of making it longer. Name her Emmy and when she gets older she could always just use Em if she prefers. I think Emmy is a pretty first name.

I think Emmie is a great name that can stand on it’s own. If that is the name you like, then go for it!

I named my daughter Emmy Lynn. I liked Emma but since I have a friend who named her daughter Emma and there are many other Emma’s out there I decided to choose Emmy and like it so much better.

We thought about naming our daughter Emmeline but I was discouraged by it seemingly having two pronunciations- EmmeLEEN and EmmeLINE. We ended up naming her Maya but still call her Emmy for short!

I have an Emmie and she’s beautiful and sweet and I had to fight my husband to use the name (he wanted Emma) but I won in the end and I’m so glad I did. She fits her name perfectly. People do always ask if it’s short for something, and I just say "nope. It’s just Emmie". We named her Emmie Drew. I love it.
