M’lynn/Milyn/Malyn vs. Yes vs. No

I am struggling to come up with a name for our third child (second daughter) due in June. I have always liked the name M’Lynn (Sally Fields’ character in Steel Magnolias). However, I do not like this spelling. First, what do you think of the name? Second, what about the spelling? Milyn, Malyn, something else???? Thanks!

I don’t like it.

You could do am M first name with Lynn and the nickname be M’Lynn
Example
Makenna Lynn
Mackenzie Lynn
Mai Lynn

Etc...

If you are not familiar with the movie, it is pronounced Muh-lynn with emphasis on the "lynn".

Malynn

Thank you for your comment, but if I use the name we will not spell it M’lynn. We are looking for alternative spelling suggestions for this name.

I like Malynn or Malin... like the actress Malin Akerman from Couples Retreat and 27 Dresses (she played the sister). I don’t know for sure how she pr. it though.

May/Mae Lynn, Maelyn, Malyn, Malin or Maylin would be cute, too.

to get the emphasis on the Lynn part, you should probably capitalize, and use two n’s and possibly an e as well:
MaLynne is much more likely to get pronounced correctly than Malyn.

I agree that it would go over better as a nickname for an M name w/ Lynn; MaisieLynne, Mabel Lynne, Miranda Lynne, MayLynne,

I like this name, and I would definitely spell it Malynn.

To me, Milyn looks like MIL-in; Malyn and Malin look like MAL-in. I think Malynn is the one that will be pronounced correctly most often. I was going to suggest Malynne as well, but I kind of think it’s overkill... Malynn is perfect.

Out of the spellings I can think of, I would definitely choose Malynn.

Definitely Malynn because that is my granddaughter’s name :)

M\’Lynn is my daughter\’s middle name. We stayed with the spelling because none of the alternatives are a clear pronunciation of the name M\’Lynn.

I am using Malynn as the name for my baby if its a girl. I love the spelling. Also found this name from steel magnolias. Have loved it since I was a kid and can’t wait to find out if my peanut is a dd! Good luck to all of you:-)

my middle name is Melin and it’s pronounced M’Lynn.
I love my name, however, I believe spelling it Malynn would’ve made it a lot easier for others to pronounce.

Malin is a Swedish name and is pr "Maa linn". :)
While living in Memphis I was usually called M’Linn Witherspoon an "i" though. :)
Both are ok and fine by me. ;)

Hahaha, never mind the Witherspoon! "With" is the right word. Swedish autocorrect..... :)

Well I spell my son name malyn and his name is just spelled malin all I did was remove the I and made a y so are you guys saying that his name is spelled wrong

My name is Malynn and it is very often mispronounced. I usually get May-lynn instead of Ma-Lynn. My mom got it from the movie steel magnolias and it is supposed to be pronounced they same way as it is in the movie.

I absolutely LOVE the name. I always thought for sure I’d use it. I think it is beautiful. Its background is Norwegian & means "little warrior". If I end up making one of my little girls that, I would go with the spelling of Mallynn or Malynn. (although a friend of mine thought it was silly because "she could get made fun of with melon jokes" ....whatever) the pr. is MA-linn at best.

My daughter's name is Malyn and is pronounced Muh-LIN. Short a and emphasis on the Lyn. Everybody wants to say it MaYlyn, there isn't a "y" between the "a" and "l" so not sure why people want to say it that way.

I am 28 years old and my mom named me back in the 90s Kayla Mylan ... also known as M'Lynn
To be honest with you I really wish my mom would have spelled it Malynn the way it's actually pronounced. All my life I've had people miss pronounce mine calling me My Lynn or Mullen it's super annoying and I have honestly thought about having the spelling changed . So please do your baby a favor and spell it Malynn so it's more easier to see how to pronounce it !

I named my daughter Anna M'Lynn Musgrove. Anna after my Mother in law and M'Lynn after Sally Fields character. We spelled it just like the movie and pronounce it just like it was spoken in the movie. Which is Muh Lynn. We have always called her M'Lynn. She loves it and gets compliments all the time. She is a singer/songwriter. Just M'Lynn! Check her out on all platforms. Mlynnsta on Instagram!
