Pax Amelia vs. Pax Sophia Rose vs. Pax Amanda Rae

Okay, so Pax is the only name that my husband will consider. He is set on it, and his mind cannot be changed. So, Pax it apparently is. So, I’m going to humour him for now, and decide on middle names. I like Sophia Rose and Amanda(without Rae). He wants Amelia or Amanda Rae. I’m getting to the point where I really couldn’t care, so am looking for outside help. Our older girls are Phaedra Beth and Flora Jade Eloise. Last name is Mattisen. ~Thanks for any help. Carly.

Do YOU like the name Pax?
I think you should care what you’re naming your daughter. If you don’t like the name you shouldn’t use it. Find a name you both like or you’ll resent your husband for the rest of your life, or vice versa. Personally I greatly dislike the name Pax and think your daughter will get made fun of. Amanda, Sophia, Rose and Amelia are very nice names. Rae is fine for a middle name.
How about...
Amelia Rae
or
Sophia Rose
or
Amanda Rae
or
Amanda Sophia

Pretty much any combination of those names will work. Good luck!

I agree with both of the pp. I hope you can find something you both agree on.

I agree with Sophia Rose, Amanda Rae, or Amanda Sophia.

Pax reminds me of Angelina Jolie’s SON. I think it’s too harsh for a little girl.

The only Pax I’ve ever known was a guy who pierced odd parts of his body. I dislike the name most heartily and if you show him that random strangers on the net don’t like Pax, maybe he’ll reconsider his unreasonable stance. It’s not just his child to name, here. You should have a say too, and if I may, you should have the bigger share of the vote since you’re the one carrying her and giving birth to her!

Tell the unreasonbale gent that Pax just WILL NOT do and toss a good baby name book (Laura Wattenberg’s Baby Name Wizard is a great one) at him and tell him to highlight all the ones he likes and then you go over what he likes and highlight your favorites with another color. Trust me, I’ve seen this argument break couples up, make him compromise... why should you be the one to bend, you’re Mom!

If I may make a few suggestions with names meaning "peace":
Sophia Winifred - Winifred is "friend of peace".
Amelia Salome - Salome is related to Shalom, the Hebrew word for peace.
Amanda Irene - Irene is Greek for peace and is the Greek goddess of peace.
Sophia Femke - Femke is the Frisian pet form of German names beginning with frid, "peace"
Amelia Frida - Frida is a spanish form of the german Frid, meaning peace.

Hope that helps, even a little!

The above posters have already said everything that I was thinking...please don’t name your baby girl Pax! There are hundreds of beautiful names out there, hopefully your husband will come around soon, naming a child is about compromise and agreeing on it together, you should both like it.

I don’t like Pax. However, I also didn’t like Flora when we named our youngest that, so I will easily get over it once the child is born and named. I named Phaedra and picked out one of Flora’s middle names, so I don’t mind compromising with this baby’s name. I just wish it wasn’t with Pax. I told him it would be ok as a middle name(not that I like it there either), but he wasn’t having any of it.

Lola, I love your suggestions, and will try and talk him into liking one of them.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

I’m with Lola on this one. you need a name you love too. I really like the suggestion of Salome. If you go to babynamesworld.com or another similar site, you should be able to search names with the meaning peace and come up with more. I found many when I just did the search. I have another issue w/ Pax that you may want to bring up to dh: when I see "Pax," I immediately think "Tampax." That could be a huge teasing issue when she gets older. Put Pax in the middle somewhere or give her another name that means "peace" and nickname her Pax. Don’t leave her stuck with that as a first name that she can’t escape, however.

It’s not even the peace thing. It’s just that he thinks it is cute.

I will continue to talk him round. Either that, or issue him with divorce papers if he refuses to see sense.

My name is Pax, I am an adult woman, and I LOVE my name!!! When I was a bit younger I had periodic wishes to be named something a bit more ’normal’ but I must say that in the long run I could not be happier. I couldn’t imagine having a common name. I hope you decided to name your baby girl Pax :) It is beautiful and strong, just like I’m sure she will be.
