Names like vs. Wolfgang
I just posted about the name Wolfgang but it was not well recieved. We still love the name and may use it but I would like to get together a list of names in our style. We like Wolfgang as it is a real, properly spelled name that isn’t common in NZ but is known. Can you think of any names that fit that catagory? Please don’t give HUGE lists, more like 5-10 names at a time. Thank you.

Is Stormwolf a real name?
I like Jasper. I also like Campbell, but it doesn’t go with our last name.
Thank you.

I’ve never heard Stormwolf on a person, but I’ve seen it on a baby name site. And if you like Wolfgang, maybe you like Stormwolf? I know Storm is a real name, so why can’t Stormwolf be?

I love Wolfgang too. It is so strong and handsome! You could always use it as a middle name? I don’t think it is a bad idea to use at all. There are so many strange names out there, this is at least a real one! It is not outlandish either. Others...

Wolfgang is the FIRST name of Mozart. People who say it’s not a name are idiots.. One of the most revered muscians of all time is named that! Anyhoo, I really like it! Go for it! It’s uncommen and unusal, but not made up and VERY cool sounding!

Well, I can tell you this from personal experience (my name actually is Wolfgang). Living in the United States, people will constantly ask your son, "What kind of name is that?", "What’s your real name?", "Like Mozart?", or "Like the chef?" I’ll be honest, it gets frustrating at times. And it’s also sad to see that a nation built largely by German immigrants has no idea that Wolfgang is one of the most common Germanic names in history (or that every Smith was once a Schmidt). It probably doesn’t help that I don’t "look" like a "Wolfgang" (I am tall but have all dark features and hair).
Now all that to say, name your son Wolfgang. Because not a day goes by in my life that I don’t think about how much better my life is because of my name. Now 90% of names just go in one ear and out the other because they sound like all the rest. But people stop on Wolfgang. People I haven’t seen in decades remember my name without reservation. People I met last year that were completely forgettable to me still remember my name and can, upon saying it out loud again, suddenly remember facts about me or our first conversations. Women love the name and I believe my name was part of me making lasting impressions with them, including my wife. Men appreciate the strength and boldness of the name. Women love the uniqueness of it.
The few passport-less Americans that give your son a hard time will be nothing compared to the benefits the name will give him. It won’t dictate who he becomes obviously, but people will remember him. I have only met a handful of others named Wolfgang. But to a man, every one of us "seems like a Wolfgang." We seem different to everyone else. Maybe it’s just in a name, I’m quite sure I’d still be the same person I am today if my name was Bill or George. But even on those frequent days when I’m largely forgettable to the world and people’s memories of me fade like the stars at dawn...a part of their brain still hones in on "Wolfgang" and wonders.

Wow, the post above was beautifully written. My son just turned one year old. His name is Wolfgang and I can’t imagine any other name for him. I do get alot of "oh, that’s unusual" or " that’s a new one" but I just shrug it off (and think that the person is just uncultured). Anyway, I hope my son will grow up to love his name as much as my husband and I do.

We are expecting twins and are considering naming them Wolfgang and Orson. Or maybe Wolfgang and Bjorn. Orson and Bjorn both mean \\\"bear\\\". Most people I talk to love the names (but not \\\"Bear\\\" as my husband originally proposed). My brother-in-law likes Wolfgang so much he told us (after we told him our plans) that he was \\\"reserving\\\" the name Wolfgang for his next child! Even though he does not have a wife or a girlfriend, let alone is expected a child, let alone a boy, etc.
My Mom is not too keen on Wolfgang. She thinks she\\\’ll have a hard time pronouncing it (?) and that he\\\’ll have to always explain it, and that people would make fun of him.
I really loved the post that a previous guest wrote whose name is Wolfgang. Thank you so much for your insight. Yes I find it strange and kind of sad too that many folks in America would think it\\\’s a \\\"new name\\\" or made up, when it is actually a very common German name. Both my husband and I have German background (my husband\\\’s parents immigrated directly from Germany and Austria.) A German name feels right to me, given our last name.

I know this is an old post, but I don’t care. My husband has wanted a boy (like most men) and our first child is a girl. I have always wanted girls, girls, girls.
When we found out #2 is a boy, I wasn’t prepared for it-- but my husband was, and immediately started calling him Wolfgang.
I originally told him I would never name my son that-- but, after seeing my husband’s reaction to the news of his baby boy- and knowing WHO his son was, before I was even used to the idea of having a son... it started to grow on me.
I called my belly "Wolfie" for a month-- until, we told his parents.
His parents have done nothing but make fun of the name and my mother-in-law went so far as to say "if you name him Wolfgang, you might as well name him [removed]". YES- SHE SAID THAT.
Needless to say, my husband is a great man, and feels the need to please his parents and make them happy... sometimes even at the expense of his own happiness.
Every name we’ve picked since Wolfgang feels like a substitute.
I’m trying to convince him that he and WE should go with our gut and it’s not a ridiculous name.
I’m sad because I feel that his parents have ruined this name for him and he’s worried if we go through with this name, they will be upset with him or something?
To the Wolfgang that made the post above, I LOVE YOU.
Since I’m the one signing the birth certificate, and I don’t care what anyone says about the name, I think I’ve made my mind up about our son’s name- and I hope that he appreciates it as much as you do one day.
thank you!
Heather

Very old post but I just wanted to say that I am a female and my name is Wolfgang. Now how's that for unusual? I mean, not only is it a very uncommon name but the looks I get when they see I'm female and also a Wolfgang is real. Most everyone is humored and even charmed by it somehow. It gets tiring dealing with the questions but as another Wolfgang here has said: I think it definitely makes people remember you.

My son is named Wolfgang. It was not my first choice but was suggested by my mother in-law and seconded by my wife. They are from another country (not a German one) and my wife trained as a classical pianist (as in Wolfgang Mozart) and was a music teacher before coming to the US. I was a little bit concerned about teasing from other kids but Wolfgang is definately not a sissy name and our son who is now 7 is no sissy either. He is as the image of the name may suggest, strong in character, yet noble and compassionate. He has had some health problems in his young life but I believe that he has strong leadership abilities and will grow up to be a fine, strong and cultured man. I do not regret his name nor do I think he does.

Do you like the name Stormwolf? I love Stormwolf more than Wolfgang. If you name him Stormwolf, you could use the nicknames Storm and Wolf.
