Jeanne vs. Jean

This is actually the middle name. We are stuck on the middle name spelling. The middle name is after my husband’s grandmother (Jeanne). Would it be wrong to spell it how is sounds Jean instead?

I would go with Jean. I never understood all the extra letters myself.

The extra letters are there because in French, Jean is masculine and Jeanne is feminine.

I kind of like Jeanne. Plus, it is honoring a family member, so I say do that.
