In the baby name book it has Sutton listed as a boy name. Thats why i picked it but i dont want him to be thought of as having a girly name. Matthew and Garrett have already been used byu family members and i dont love any of the other names... Beckett & Barett sound to harsh to me and our little girls name is Ever so Everett wouldnt work....

I highly doubt so many people know people with this name... It’s not even in the top 1000 names for either gender, EVER. It IS a surname though, so to me, that makes it way more boyish.

I think we can say that Sutton is "unisex."
Ryan and Tyler are definite boy names but I still know girls with those names.
Maybe it depends on what part of the country/world you live in. To me Sutton is all boy and I think it sounds perfect with Ever and Wyatt!

My son’s name is Sutton. BOY, BOY, BOY. I know quite a few boys named Sutton. I went to college with a guy named Sutton and then had the sweetest Sutton in my class when I first taught pre-k in 2002. So, rare as it is, it is only recently become popular as a girl name. I was pretty bummed about it honestly, there is no fair game when trying to name your son something that won’t become girly. I know little girls named Chandler, Ryan, Logan, Elliot,...I guess since that fad of naming girls boyish, unisex names is in, no names are safe so name what you like!

My daughters name is Sutton Shyann and I have gotten SOOOOOOOO many compliments on her name. She is very headstrong and feisty but also very sensitive and kind. It’s fits her perfectly. HOWEVER, when I was pregnant, I was convinced she was a boy and I had picked out Sutton Wade. When I found out she was a girl I refused to give the name up and just changed the middle name. So, to me, totally unisex :)

So funny to me the comments of "boys name - period!" or "girls name only!".
It works both ways, people. Regardless of who you know who is named Sutton.
I don’t know anyone named Sutton, but think it’s a strong boy name, but also a sophisticated girl name. Either way, I like it for both.

I love the name either way. It can sound like a sweet girl or a tough but, but either way, the most notable and the first person that I think of when I hear Sutton is Broadway ACTRESS, Sutton Foster. She’s the only Sutton I’ve ever heard of, so, therefore, I am slightly biased towards it being a female name, but it could really go either way. If I met a boy named Sutton, I wouldn’t find it girly at all, and I would actually find him kind of cool.

My last name is Sutton and I find it very strange that people are naming little girls with my last name. I’ve had my name shouted at me by MTIs (Drill Sergeants)and can say it doesn’t sound feminine to me. The double t is abrupt and stocatto sounding when pronounced correctly.

My son is Sutton, he’s 6 now, and when We named him we had never even heard anyone with the name. It’s the only name we fell in love with and it suits him perfectly! I think it’s a perfect boys name! He is Sutton River, and he is obsessed with water and fishing- Nothing girly about this boy!!! We thought we were the only Sutton until we met another boy with that name last year at a hotel in Orlando
