What would you vs. do?

Hi all, my name is Emily and I am currently adopting my third child. We already have adopted two beautiful children, Harleigh Elizabeth and Tayleigh Evangeline, twins who are turning four next month. We are adopting anohter little girl. However, when we adopted the twins, they were only a month old and had not yet learned their names, so we were able to change them. Now, the little girl we are adopting is named Bellevue Amara. We do not like this name at all. However, Bellevue, who goes by Belle, is already two. We really want to rename her, but fear she will have a hard time adjusting to a new name. We were going to change her name to either Isabelle or Isabella Maryanne. That way she would have the same nickname. But, a lot of friends and family think it is wrong to change her name. So, we are turning to outside help! Would you change her name? Or leave it the same? Thanks! Emily & Tommy

I would say to change it Bellevue sounds horrible.

I would change it, but only to Belle Amara or Belle Amara-Maryanne.

I would rename her, beginning by calling her Belle.

At two, she is too young to remember differently.

These are questions your social worker and placement counselor/agency should be answering, though-not the "wise," crowd on babynamegenie.

She’s 2 and if she is called Belle she probably doesn’t know her name is Bellevue.

Bellevue reminds me of the mental hospital in NYC so I would just rename her "Belle", but I agree with the poster that you should ask the social worker.

I would just shorten it to Belle.

We have spoken to our social worker. She is fairly new to her job and we are one of the first families she’s worked with. She wasn’t much help. The social worker we used to adopt the girls no longer was working as we went into this adoption. - Emily

I don’t see the harm in changing her name, so long as you keep ’Belle’ in there somewhere... Belle by itself is very nice, or Isabelle is very nice and is my top pick. Mirabelle is also nice :)

When we adopted our sister, she was 3. Her name was Ryan Marie. These were too names my mom wasn’t fond of. (boy names and filler middle names) Did we change it? Nope. We thought "She has had so much change in her life, lets keep the only thing that she has always had." If you are going to call her Belle, please keep it Bellevue. GL!
