I think Kip/Kipton is better as a nn. I knew someone named Kenneth nn Kip. He’s a fat 30 year old who still goes by "Kip" and it just gives me the willies.. it sounds weird and creepy on an adult. I also knew someone named Kipper when I was little and I thought it was a silly chipmunk sounding name. I just don’t like it.

I don’t think it ages well. Kip is okay on a little kid, but I agree with the second poster, it sounds creepy and somehow unsettling on an adult.

The people above aren’t stupid. the poster asked for honest opinions on the name. If she didn’t want an honest sampling of the public, she wouldn’t have posed the question. It’s good that there are people on this site who disagree. It’s good that some people think the name is great and it’s good that the people who don’t love it have expressed their reasons for not liking it. Personally, I agree with the first few comments, I think Ki[removed]weet on a little boy, but I don’t think it sounds so great on a 30, 40, 50+ year old man. But ultimately, if the poster loves the name then she should use it. GL poll poster!

I voted for Kendrick in your poll a few days ago. I just think that Kendrick nn Kip ages better than Kipton, but I agree with the last comment that you should use the one you love the most. GL!

I like Kip/Kipp just fine. Adding the ton is the problem in my opinion.

I had never heard of this name until there was a contestant on The Bachelorette a few seasons ago.I thought his name was a bit unusual at first but then as the season went on it really grew on me and now I like the name a lot.

Kipton looks very childish and made-up. Kipp however is awesome!

I don’t see anything wrong with the name. It’s not my personal favorite mainly because I associated it with Krypton (Superman’s planet), which was also my husband’s dog’s name. But that is completely personal and the name Kipton doesn’t even look like Krypton that much...
Anyway... When he gets older, he can use the full name Kipton, which sounds grown up to me, instead of the more childish-sounding nickname Kip.
It’s a very original name, and if you love it, I think he can pull it off during life.

I think Kip/Kipp would sound great on an attractive, physically fit adult.. but not so great on an out of shape, balding man. It’s a name that I would never use because looking at my husband, I can reasonably guess that the name would not look right on my adult son (even though his dad’s not balding... yet lol). If I were you, I would take a look at yourself and your husband and try to guess if your son will most likely be a charismatic, fit adult who can carry the name Kip/Kipp with no trouble...or if it might not look quite right. I know you can’t guess with certainty what your son will look like or what his personality might be, but it might actually help if you try to imagine your husband with the name Kip. If he could pull it off, your son probably could too.

I agree that Kipton seems more like a dog’s name than a person. I like the nn Kip just not really a fan of Kipton. That being said if you decide to use it, I don’t think its a horrible name and I’ve seen a lot worse. GL.

Did you ever see Napoleon Dynamite? One of the characters name was Kip, he was a fat nerdy middle aged guy...You would have to see the movie, trust me, it would ruin the name for you!

I like the nickname Kip, but Kipton sounds a little hard to say because of the combo of K, P, and T sounds. Buy hey, it’s your kid! Name him however you want. :)

I have been obsessed with the name Kipton for years. I think it is absolutely adorable! To me, I picture a little cowboy named Kipton! If I have a son I can promise you it will be his name! I think it is also very classy sounding for an adult. Nothing creepy about it. I think it just has to grow on people because it is SO different! :)

My 5 year old’s name is Kipton. He’s our third child, full of confidence and personality. He’s quite the charmer. Everyone loves him! It’s the person who makes the name; not the name who makes the person. I’m delighted his name has remained unique. When I named my daughter Avery, my mom frowned because it seemed better suited for a boy. A years later it was featured in Pottery Barn...

Hello a bit late to chime in but I have a five year old boy who we names Kipton. We never call him Kip as it reminds us of a Dan or a Bob vs. a Daniel or Robert. BTW I have a brother in law who when we first met in high school was a Dan, and now absolutely goes by Daniel, he never really liked Dan. Anyway back to my original comments one of our twin boys is named Kipton and the other Avery.

I was wondering what middle name those of you chose for your son that went with Kipton? I love the name Kipton, but can't decide on a middle name. Thanks!

What I don’t like about it: It’s goofy and seems like a great name for a pet...I think it could lead to teasing sorry I over all don’t like this name for a person.
