Nickname for vs. Deborah

I would like to name my daughter Deborah, after a very dear friend who helped me through a very difficult time in my life and I’m very indebted to her. The original Deborah was a fantastic person and the last thing she asked me was to name my next daughter Deborah, and I really want to respect her wishes. Does anyone have any good nicknames for it? I’ve been getting a lot of flak for choosing this name but I’m set. Her middle name will be Suzette after my mom. Her brother is Sean Nicholas. Thanks! Claudette

The only names I can think of is Deb and Debbie? The normal nicknames for Deborah. You could also use Deborah as a middle name instead of a first name? And also, why did you mention that her brother is Sean Nicholas?? Confused?

Just so that whatever you find goes well with Sean’s name. Also, I thought of Deb and Debbie but everyone I asked said that they were way too old-fashioned. Even if it’s just barely from Deborah it’s fine, as long as it doesn’t sound like she’s a refugee from the seventies or something :).
Also, I really want Deborah as a middle name, and my husband isn’t insanely fond of my mom so he doesn’t want Suzette as her first name.
I was told that I won’t be able to have more kids after this so I can’t save the name or anything.
Thanks!

The name Devorah is associated with the name Deborah. You could call her Dev for short. Nora would also be a good nickname even though Norah doesn’t derive from Deborah

you could call her D. or Deebee. or maybe DS? Ross (RahS) maybe? Maybe use her first and last initial? I’ll keep thinking...

I think Debbie is a cute nn. Debbie was popular in the 50s. not the 70s. My mother said that half the girls in her class were named Debra/Deborah.

Deborah \d(e)-bo-rah\ as a girl’s name is pronounced DEB-er-ah. It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Deborah is "bee"

Bee/Bea would be a cute nn.

I think ’Rah-rah’ is really cute for when she is young.
As she gets older I think Dee, Dee-dee or Bee are the best nicknames.

My recommendation is ...

Devorah Susan

(3/2 syllable count)

... Hebrew versions of Deborah and Suzette.

P.S.

I think Dee, Dee-Dee or Honey Bee (meaning of Deborah) would make great nicknames.

I honestly wouldn’t even use a nickname. I’m not a big nickname person anyway. And, while the nicknames Deb and Debbie still sound fairly dated to me, Deborah is a lovely and elegant name that I think could be due for a comeback.

I know a Debbie, Debz, Dora and just an ’Ora’.

Deborah is a lovely name.

I’m liking Dora, Dee, Ora, Dev (I kind of like Devi) and Bee. These are really cute! Thanks!
I had no idea whether it was 50s or 70s, I just kind of picked a random decade with a lot of dated names :). My hubby says just call her Deborah. I’m considering it, but I’m leaning toward a nickname.
Thanks so much! I’m going to float these nicknames around in my family now.

as a deborah myself nicknames have always been thing like debbie, debs, deb, deh and it never made me feel old, the only problme sometimes is people mispronouncing my name, but i think thats not that bad, so no problems!

Hi My name is Deborah and I go by the Knick name Orah. I adore my name and HATE being called Deb, Debbie or any variation along those lines. Deborah or Orah is what I prefer
