Help! vs. Replacing vs. Kellan
Okay, so recently discovered & liked the name Kellan. I was looking it up on another baby name site which allows viewers of the site to talk about what it was like to grow up with that name, including possible rude nicknames. Well, almost EVERY Kellan/Kellen who had written in said "Helen Keller" was a popular teasing nickname, and now I don’t think I can use it! Does anyone have any suggestions of similar names? They don’t have to start with K or rhyme with Kellan. I just mean similar in structure, etc. if that makes sense. Thank you!!

Kellan is a great name and there are worse things than to be compared to a great woman like Helen Keller...she was amazing! I think Kellan is a strong, wonderful name. Every name has a teasing nickname. I was Borin’ Lauren growing up and I still LOVE my name! Kids are cruel, but if you raise your child to love themselves, and have pride in their name, I don’t think it will be a problem. Stick with Kellan!

I really would never have ever thought of the Helen Keller thing until you said it. Kellan is cute! My 2 suggestions are Calum and Keagan

Thank you! I definitely didn’t mean to insult Helen Keller. I think she was brilliant and I do admire her very much! I just didn’t want my son to be teased that his name sounds like a girls’. I thought Kellan sounded very masculine until I saw the nicknames of Helen Keller and Kelly. Now I feel it’s a bit feminine, even though I know it isn’t! I love strong, masculine names.
Thanks again!

Thank you! I’m actually very surprised by the feedback; before I looked on the other baby name site, I posted Kellan in a list of boys’ names I liked and almost everyone shot it down immediately! I thought it was quite nice! Anyway, thanks for the input. You all are starting to change my mind about Kellan, but I also like Callen and Corbin.
Also, some of you are spelling it Kellen...which spelling do you prefer? I am starting to like -en a bit more.

I love Kellan! My friends name is Kelan, never teased... Do you like Talan?..
About the spelling...when I first hear Kellen/Kellan, I don’t hear that hard A sound, so that’s why I spell it with the E- Kellen.

That makes sense about -en, thanks.
How is Talan pronounced?

I think Talan ends in same way Kellen does. I mean they both kind of sound the same in the ending. I wouldn’t worry about which spelling you choose- Kellan or Kellen, just choose which one you think looks the best to you. It’s different for everyone. I think Kellen looks right, but you started off with the spelling Kellan, so maybe that’s the right spelling for you?

I personally don’t like the name Kellan. It sounds a bit like Helen.

Kellan sounds a bit like a cereal to me. But if you want to stay in the same genre you might think of Talan and Collin.
