Delilah nn Lily vs. Yes vs. No

Hello, I want to call my daughter Lily as a nn, but I want her to have the longer formal name of Delilah. I do not like the names Lillian or Liliana as a formal name for Lily and I do not like the nn Lilah, Delia, or Lil for the full name Delilah. In your opinion is it okay for me to name her Delilah and use Lily as a nn? I know some people might think it is sort of a "stretch" but the names do both have "-lil-" in them so I think it works, right? Thanks!

A nickname doesn’t have to go with the name, even though this one does go very well! A nickname is meant to just provide a short name to call someone. Look at Richard and Dick or William and Billy.

Using Lily/Lilly as a nn is a great idea, and you could also use the nn Lila, which is a type of purply colour - even though you probably already know that!

I think it’s lovely, both very cute names! I might do the same actually if I ever name a daughter Delilah! :) Someone on here posted the other day about using Ru as a nickname for Rosamund; compared to that, Delilah nn Lily is totally logical! GL :)
