Ellie nickname for Amelia vs. Yes vs. No
I did this poll a while ago, but I still can’t make up my mind. I am naming our daughter after my grandmother, Amelia. I don’t love the name, but thought Ellie (which I love) might be a good nn??

Never considered that, but yes-- it’s a very natural nickname! :) Go for it!!

That would be fine; I also like the Mia suggestion as a nickname. Good luck!

Yes, it is fine. A nn can be anything you want it to be.

It doesn’t go exactly, because Amelia has the "eel" sound in the middle, rather than the "ell" sound in Ellie, but it could certainly work (they nn John as Jack, and Henry as Hank, so why not??). But if you don’t have the name Amelia (which I think is beautiful), then don’t use it. You should choose a name for your daughter that you love!! You could always give her Amelia as a middle name.

You should love the name you give your daughter. Worrisome that you would be naming her a name you sort of like... you could always honor your grandmother by giving her Amelia as a middle name and choosing a name you LOVE as her first name.
